The Federal Correctional Complex, Butner Satellite Prison Camp (FCC Butner) Camp is a United States minimum-security federal prison for men in Butner, North Carolina. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. FCI Butner Camp is adjacent to FCI Butner Medium I and is about 25 miles northwest of Raleigh, the state capital. It includes the Bureau's largest medical complex, which operates a drug treatment program and specializes in oncology and behavioral science.

The complex lies on the county line between Durham County to the west and Granville County to the east.

Housing: FCI Butner Camp houses inmates in two-person rooms.

Health Services: Inmates receive a medical screening upon arrival at FCI Butner Camp. Inmates are then scheduled for routine physical examinations, laboratory studies, physical and dental examinations, and assessment of any health needs. Sick call, dental call, emergency care, medications, chronic care, physical examinations, periodic health screenings for HIV, TB, colon cancer (for inmates over 50 years of age), diabetes and cholesterol screening (for inmates over 45), and vaccinations as recommended are available. Other preventive health services may be available based on the inmate’s age and needs.

Psychology Services: Each housing unit at FCI Butner Camp has a psychologist assigned to provide counseling and other mental health services to inmates. These services include individual counseling and group therapy. Groups include stress management, anger management, and others.

Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP): FCI Butner Camp does not house a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). The Drug Education Class, the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NR-DAP), Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are also offered.

Education Services: FCI Butner Camp offers GED and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) courses to inmates. High school diplomas and post-secondary programs are available through paid correspondence programs.

Advanced Occupational Education: FCI Butner Camp offers advanced occupational education in Carpentry, Electrical, Horticulture 1 & 2.

Apprenticeship: FCI Butner Camp offers an apprenticeship in Logistics Coordinator.

Library Services: FCI Butner Camp the law library is located in the Education Department, which contains a variety of legal reference materials for use in preparing legal papers.

Commissary: The commissary is available to prisoners to shop only once per week. The monthly spending limit for inmates is $360. Inmates are assigned a specific shopping day when they may shop.

Recreation: Recreation programs at FCI Butner Medium 1 include indoor and outdoor activities, and range from individualized arts and crafts programs to intramural team sports such as baseball, basketball, and volleyball. Physical fitness, weight reduction, hobby craft, and musical programs are also available to inmates at both facilities.

The Commissary provides a bank-type account for your money & for the procurement of articles not issued regularly as part of the institution's administration. Covid Visitation Information

We remind all visitors to carefully review our special visiting procedures during the COVID pandemic, and also remind all visitors to observe applicable state and local COVID travel restrictions in planning your visit to the institution.

Please call 919-575-5000 prior to your visit to get the latest updates, time changes or visitation cancellations.

All visitors will be temperature checked with results annotated at the screening site prior to entrance. All staff working the screening site will be in proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Visitors will be in-processed on a first come first serve basis, adhering to social-distancing requirements. If distancing requirements cannot be met, visitors may be asked to wait outside for systematic in-processing to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Inmates on quarantine or isolation status will not be permitted visits - it will be the visitor's responsibility to check with the institution prior to arrival to ensure the scheduled visit can still take place.

The visiting room is designed to maximize social distancing, with a minimum of six feet between persons. Inmates are permitted two visitors per visit. To ensure equal opportunities, the frequency of visits determines any termination. Appropriate face coverings are mandatory for all inmates and visitors, all visitors wearing a mask will be provided one by the institution, theirs will be secured in the lockers in the lobby. No physical contact, photographs, food, or drink is permitted. A hand hygiene station, including alcohol-based hand sanitizer, is available at all visiting entrances and exits. Orderlies are assigned to each visitation room and will continually sanitize all touch surfaces, restrooms, etc.
