Located at 128 Yelvington Rd in East Palatka, FL, Putnam CI carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Putnam CI plays a critical role within Florida's state prison system, providing accommodation for up to 457 adult male medium-security offenders and administering an extensive array of rehabilitation and personal development programs under the auspices of the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC). The institution's primary objective is to prepare felons serving sentences exceeding a year for successful reintegration into society upon their release.
Among the institution's offerings are diverse academic programs designed to enhance inmates' educational attainment and skill sets. These programs include adult basic education, General Educational Development (GED) preparation, mandatory literacy programs, and career and technical education initiatives such as applied information technology, heavy equipment operation, HVAC systems, and warehouse and manufacturing academy courses. Through these academic endeavors, inmates are equipped with the knowledge and competencies necessary to pursue employment opportunities upon release.
In addition to academic programming, Putnam Correctional Institution provides a range of institutional betterment programs aimed at fostering personal growth and development among inmates. These programs include the 100-hour Transition Program, which assists inmates in transitioning back into society by providing essential life skills training and support. The institution also offers a Law Library Program and a Library Program to facilitate access to legal resources and promote literacy among inmates. Furthermore, the Peer 2 Peer program fosters positive peer interactions and support networks among inmates, while the Teaching Animals and Prisoners Success (T.A.P.S.) program provides opportunities for inmates to develop vocational skills and responsibility through animal care and training activities.

Putnam CI maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
Regular visiting is held on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (8:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. Central Standard Time). Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. (7:15 a.m. CST) on both days. Visitors will not be processed after 2:00 p.m. (1:00 p.m. CST) unless authorized by the duty warden. Visitors will be allowed to park in designated spaces no earlier than 7:30 a.m. EST and 6:30 a.m. CST on visiting days.
Regular visiting is permitted on the following holidays:

• Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. (third Monday in January)
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Veteran's Day (November 11th)
• Thanksgiving Day
• Friday after Thanksgiving; and
• Christmas Day
If any of the holidays listed above falls on Saturday, the preceding Friday will be observed as a holiday. If any of these holidays fall on Sunday, then the following Monday will be observed as the holiday
