The Goshen County WY Detention Center is a detention center located at 2120 East B St Torrington, WY which is operated locally by the Goshen County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Goshen County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Torrington Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Goshen County Detention Center was opened in 1997 and updated in 1998. The center can house up to 90 prisoners and employs 15 deputies, 5 central control clerks, 2 dietary service cooks, 2 nurses and an administrative assistant. The overall operation of the center is overseen by the administrative captain and the daily operations are managed by 3 division sergeants.
The center is responsible for the safety and well-being of prisoners housed within the center. This includes ensuring that each prisoner receive three nutritionally stable meals each day, adequate medical treatment and care, access to personal hygiene items and access to mental health counseling/treatment.
The center houses both pre- and post-convicted prisoners charged with municipal, state and federal criminal violations. Contracts are currently held with the Wyoming Department of Corrections, Marshals Service, Immigration & Custom Enforcement, United States Air Force, Torrington Police Department, Lingle Police Department and various other Wyoming Sheriff’s Offices to house prisoners.
Incoming mail must list the full name and address of the sender and the intended receiver. Improperly addressed mail will be returned. The correct address is:

The U.S. Post Office will not accept outgoing mail that contains any drawing on the front of the envelope or mail that contains colored drawings on the back of the envelope.
Prisoner mail is subject to scanning. Incoming mail will be inspected and scanned by deputies to check for contraband, money, escape plans, or writing that may jeopardize the security and order of the facility.
Prisoners may receive written letters and standard photographs. Polaroid photographs, stamps, envelopes, and other forwarded items are not allowed. Mail content must be thoroughly understandable by deputies. Mail or publications containing images or depictions of sexual situations, frontal nudity, or sexual acts are prohibited. At the discretion of detention staff, mail or publications containing unauthorized references or material may be refused, confiscated, destroyed, placed in the prisoner's property, or returned to the sender.
Prisoners may receive newspapers, magazines and books, but they must be received directly from a publisher or bookstore. Any subscription material received after a prisoner leaves the jail will not be forwarded. Inmates are prohibited from subscribing to services or ordering merchandise.
Prisoners cannot receive phone calls while in jail. However, most prisoners are allowed to purchase phone time that can be used to make outgoing phone calls. Securus charges $11.70 per 15-minute call; InmateAid can get the same call for $3.15. Click here for details
To add money to a prisoner's account, you may mail it directly to the prisoner or deposit the funds directly to the detention center by stopping by and leaving the money with Central Control. Personal checks, cash, money orders or bank cashier's checks will be accepted. Receipts are given for the funds.
Prisoners buy a variety of things from the jail commissary: candy, snacks, beverages, writing materials, shoes and clothing, provided they have sufficient funds to pay for what they order.
If a prisoner has no money in his/her commissary account for 72 hours prior to the request for commissary, the jail will supply him/her with necessary personal hygiene items as determined by jail staff. He/she will also receive three stamped envelopes and writing paper each week if they are proven to be indigent.

Visits are permitted only on visiting days at times scheduled. Persons must be 16 years of age or older to visit. Children under the age of 16 years are not allowed in the lobby during visitation hours! Visitors under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or guardian with them during the visitation process. Visitors are required to show photo identification upon arriving for a visit each and every time. All visitors will access this facility through the front lobby and are not allowed in any other part of the building unless accompanied by a deputy. Contact visits are not permitted. Inmates are allowed 30 minutes each visitation day for visits. Each visit is given upon a first-come/first-serve basis. Visitation times are as follows:
Tuesday - Friday 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sunday & Monday 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Tuesday - Friday 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Sunday - Monday 6:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m.

Visitors living over 100 miles from this facility are allowed to arrange for a special visit. the special visit must be arranged at least 24 hours in advance. Special visits are allowed only on Saturdays. A visit may be terminated or denied if visitors are under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, there is insufficient space available, refusal of the visitor to submit to search requirements, refusal or failure to produce proper identification, violation of any facility rule by prisoner or visitor, disruptive behavior or when the activities of the facility require that visitation be canceled.
Inmates may employ their own defense counsel. If an inmate is indigent, he/she may petition the Court for an appointed attorney. Attorney's may visit with prisoners in person and can schedule appointments to see their clients through Central Control at 307-532-5917.
