Located at 1694 Barber Rd in Gainesville, GA, HCCI carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. HCCI offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The Hall County Correctional Institute serves a dual purpose, meeting the workforce needs of the county and cities while fulfilling obligations to the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC). Under contract with the department, the institute houses 200 inmates, generating approximately $1.6 million annually for Hall County. Through its inmate labor force, the Correctional Institution provides essential services to county departments, including Parks and Leisure, Road Maintenance, Resource Recovery, and Solid Waste, as well as Gainesville City Public Works and Parks and Recreation. In 2022 alone, inmate work details contributed an estimated $2.9 million in free labor to the county.
In 2014, the institution launched the innovative Re-entry Accountability Court Transition (REACT) program. Designed for Hall and Dawson residents returning from state prison, REACT offers intensive programming, educational upgrades, and employment opportunities before parole or probation release. The REACT program targets offenders returning to the Northeastern Judicial Circuit with two to three years remaining on their sentence, focusing primarily on drug and non-violent offenders. Participants undergo a personalized program plan based on risk and need assessment, encompassing a range of courses from motivational training to workforce development skills. Participants in the REACT program are housed in a transitional center facility, where they receive support in securing employment that offers a living wage and benefits. The program emphasizes personal responsibility, requiring participants to cover rent, transportation, and other expenses. Ultimately, the REACT program aims to enhance public safety, reduce government costs, and diminish recidivism rates. By fostering partnerships and providing comprehensive support, the program endeavors to reintegrate offenders into the community as productive and law-abiding citizens.
HCCI maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
Visitation hours are from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and approved Hall County Holidays. (Visitors arriving after 12:30 pm will not be admitted). Visitation periods may be ended after 2 hours if additional visitors are waiting to be admitted. Consideration will be given to those who have traveled more than 100 miles (or approximately 2 hours travel time). The visitation area is monitored by closed circuit camera and is recorded for the safety and security of staff, visitors and inmates. All visitors are subject to a search of their person and personal effects when entering the visitation area. Visitors who refuse to be searched will not be admitted. Visitors are permitted to bring in up to ($40.00) in single dollar bills or change for use in the vending machines. Items such as cell phones, pagers, wallets, handbags, pictures, and papers are not permitted in the visitation area and must be secured in a visitor’s vehicle. Vehicles are subject to search at any time while on County Property.
