The Hampton Roads Regional is a low/medium-security detention center located at 2690 Elmhurst Ln Portsmouth, VA which is operated locally by the City of Portsmouth Regional Authority and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates have been here for less than five years. Hampton Roads Regional accepts inmates from the City of Portsmouth County Sheriff's arrests and surrounding towns, Portsmouth Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Virginia here.

Hampton Roads Regional Jail - Visitation

Contact visitation rooms are available in the same area for meetings with attorneys.

Visitation Rules and Regulations - Inmates are allowed one (1) visit per week, for thirty (30) minutes each. All visits depend on staff availability and are subject to change; in which case the revised schedule is posted in the housing areas.
