Heard County Jail is for County Jail offenders sentenced up to twenty four months.

All prisons and jails have Security or Custody levels depending on the inmate’s classification, sentence, and criminal history. Please review the rules and regulations for County - medium facility.

The Heard County Jail is a detention center located at 11820 Hwy 100 North
PO Box 339 Franklin, GA which is operated locally by the Heard County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Heard County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Franklin Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Inmate Commissary

DO NOT SEND OR BRING CASH FOR AN INMATE
Only send or bring money orders addressed to the inmate.

Each inmate may purchase commissary once a week. Inmates are allowed to spend up to $45.00 per week for commissary items. Commissary items include: snacks, personal hygiene items, undergarments, stamps, writing materials and envelopes.

Inmate Mail

All incoming mail must have a return address on the envelope. No mail will be allowed that has any extra writing or graphics on the envelopes. Inmates will not be allowed to send or receive mail from other incarcerated inmates. All incoming and outgoing mail will be inspected and may be randomly read for information that may constitute a threat to the safety and security of the jail.

Any money orders or certified checks sent to the inmate will be removed from the envelope and a receipt will be placed in the envelope showing the inmate that money was received.

Pictures that are sent to inmates must not contain any nudity, depict violence or depict illegal activity. Any letter with explicit sexual content will not be allowed. If any mail contains any of the items listed above, the entire envelope and everything in it will be returned to sender.

Visitation Information

Inmate Visitation

Visitation with family members, relatives, and friends will be allowed as posted below. Visits will not last longer than 20 minutes. Proper dress is required for visits. Halter tops, short shorts/skirts, low cut tops, low cut dresses, or any clothing showing mid-drifts are strictly prohibited.

Each Inmate may designate up to four (4) persons at time at admission process. The inmate will fill out a visitation form and list the visitors he or she wishes to see. Victims of a crime which resulted in the incarceration of the inmate will not be allowed to be placed on the visitation form. Once the inmate fills out the visitation form, and all four (4) slots are used the visitaion form will not be allowed to be changed for at least 6 months unless approved by the Jail Administrator, or if one of the visitors is deceased or moves out of state.

On visitation days only 2 visitors that are on the list will be allowed to visit with inmate. The staff has the authority to terminate any visit if they feel as if the safety and security of the facility is threatened in any way.

Visitation for inmates is on Wednesday and Sundays only. All visitors must be at Jail 15 minutes prior to scheduled visitation to sign in. Latecomers will not be allowed visitation.

Visitation is as follows according to the section the inmate is housed in:

3:00 PM to 3:20 PM (Sundays)
Work Detail Females: 7:30 PM to 7:50 PM (Wednesdays)
12:30 PM to 12:50 PM (Sundays)

Visitation by legal counsel or ministers will be permitted with the authorization of the Jail Administrator. The visits will be arranged around normal visitation hours.

Contact visit are only allowed for state sentenced inmates who will be going to prison and will be authorized and scheduled by the Jail Administrator.
