Located at 60 Punahele St in Hilo, HI, HCCC carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. HCCC offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The HCCC operates as a 226-bed facility across two sites. The main facility, located on three acres in downtown Hilo, serves as the primary site, while HCCC's reintegration program, Hale Nani, is situated five miles away in Panaewa. Hale Nani specializes in offering reintegration services and a work release program tailored for sentenced inmates scheduled for release on the island of Hawaii. Additionally, HCCC contracts transitional community residential program services specifically for female offenders.
Within HCCC, inmates have access to various work opportunities, including in-facility worklines and positions offered through Correctional Industries. Furthermore, inmates can engage in community service worklines supporting county, state, and non-profit organizations.
HCCC maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
