Located in Plainfield, IN, HTCF operates as a private contractor with various government agency agreements providing state-minimum custody requirements. Programs are offered to all custody levels, including work release residents focused on reentry success. With a strong emphasis on rehabilitation, HTCF provides comprehensive educational and vocational opportunities. Onsite amenities include dietary, health, fitness, educational, religious, and recreational services. Regular inspections ensure compliance with government standards, ensuring the facility's continued operation.

Heritage Trail Correctional Facility (HTCF) was awarded management by The GEO Group, Inc. (GEO) from the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) in November 2010. Originally part of the Indiana Short Term Offender Program (STOP) Facility, it now operates on the former grounds of the Plainfield Re-Entry Educational Facility. The facility focuses on providing programming and treatment to offenders with 365 days or less remaining on their sentence. Governor Mike Pence announced plans in October 2014 to repurpose the facility to house lower-risk first-time offenders, leading to its renaming as the Heritage Trail Correctional Facility (HTCF).

The core curriculum at HTCF is rooted in two successful IDOC evidence-based programs: Purposeful Living Units Serve (PLUS), a faith and character program, and Thinking for a Change (T4C), a cognitive behavioral program. This approach aims to facilitate positive behavior change through holistic programming, including addiction recovery services, family and social support, civic engagement, cognitive/behavioral change, education, and employment. Faith and character-based programming are integrated into all daily activities.

The facility infrastructure comprises an administration building, chapel, programs space, vocational building, services building, and twelve housing cottages. These facilities provide the necessary infrastructure to support the comprehensive programming offered at HTCF, fostering rehabilitation and positive behavior change among the inmate population.
