The Kern County James G. Bowles Juvenile Hall is a medium to low-security detention center located at 1831 Ridge Road Bakersfield, CA that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.

James G. Bowles Juvenile Hall is operated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by the Kern County Probation Department as a secure detention facility for minors.
The minors detained at Juvenile Hall are alleged to have committed a law violation and are detained for the protection of themselves and/or the community. They are provided with the necessities of life including food, clothing, and living quarters, as well as mental health, medical, and dental care.
The Juvenile Hall program is structured to provide individual and group activities and a well-balanced school program. Counseling and guidance to help minors with immediate problems of detention are available. While detained, the individual minor and his or her behavior patterns are observed and documented. A report detailing these observations is provided to the Probation Department and the Court to aid in a better understanding of the minor’s behavior.
Juvenile facilities overseen by Kern County do not publish the names of the offenders housed in their facility. As such, there is no public forum for this information.
Visitation at the county or regional juvenile facility is restricted to immediate family members only, including mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers.
