Topeka CF is a state prison for women operated by the Kansas Department of Corrections. Originally established in the 1970s, it became the sole women's prison in Kansas in 1995, offering various security levels but now is classified from minimum security to work-release programs. The facility's site, founded in 1905 by African American educator Edward S. Stephens as the Topeka Industrial Institute, operated as a school until its closure in 1955, resembling the Tuskegee Institute in its structure and mission.
