Located at 3000 Morgan Rd in LaGrange, KY, RCC carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. RCC offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
RCC serves three primary functions, reflecting its diverse role within the Kentucky Department of Corrections. First, as the Assessment and Classification Center, it handles the intake process for incoming male felons, excluding those sentenced to death row, processing over 3,500 individuals annually. Additionally, it manages sentence calculations for felons in Controlled Intake and classifies felons for the Class D Program, amounting to approximately 9,000 individuals per year.
Secondly, the complex houses a permanent inmate population of 308 individuals at full capacity, who provide essential support services for the institution. This includes 200 inmates working in various departments such as Maintenance, Kitchen, Laundry, Legal Office, and Grievance Office, while 108 minimum custody inmates maintain the facility's 3,000-acre farm.
Lastly, Roederer Correctional hosts the Substance Abuse Treatment Program, a 200-bed intensive in-patient unit catering to minimum and community custody inmates. This program offers comprehensive treatment facilitated by inmate mentors, treatment staff, security personnel, community mentors, and volunteers, aimed at addressing substance abuse issues among the inmate population.
Located approximately 3 miles south of LaGrange and 20 miles north of Louisville, Roederer CC initially opened in 1976 as a 150-bed minimum-security "work camp" institution operating a 3,000-acre prison farm. Over time, it underwent significant transformations, transitioning to a medium/minimum security facility in 1987 and later becoming the Assessment and Classification Center for all incoming state prisoners in 1989, except those on death row.
In terms of physical layout, the complex comprises a total of 1,238 beds, with 930 medium security beds within the fenced perimeter. Of these, 200 are permanently assigned inmates providing essential services, while the remaining 730 beds accommodate inmates entering the system through the Assessment Center. Additionally, there are 308 minimum custody beds located outside the fence, with 200 inmates participating in the Substance Abuse Program and the remaining 108 inmates contributing to various support services and farm operations.
Overall, Roederer Correctional Complex plays a vital role in the Kentucky Department of Corrections, combining assessment and classification functions with inmate rehabilitation and essential support services, contributing to public safety and offender reintegration efforts in the state.
RCC maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
