Located at 965 Elm St in Concord, MA, MCI-Concord carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. MCI-Concord offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The MCI-Concord is a medium-security prison for men, established in 1878, it holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating state prison for men in Massachusetts. Operated by the MASS Department of Correction, MCI-Concord houses approximately 570 inmates, with a maximum capacity of 614 beds for the general population. Designated as a level 4 medium-security prison, MCI-Concord is located on state Route 2 in Concord.
Adjacent to the prison, across the highway, are the Massachusetts State Police barracks (Troop A-3) and the Northeastern Correctional Center, a minimum-security facility. Currently, MCI-Concord accommodates over 550 medium-security inmates. Notably, the prison was visited by Mother Teresa during her tour of Massachusetts prisons in 1988 and by Seán Cardinal O'Malley in 2012.
Moreover, MCI-Concord serves as the headquarters for various departments within the Massachusetts Department of Correction. These include the Central Date Computation Unit, Central Records Unit, Central Research Unit, and the Data Collection Unit. These units are housed in both the SFU Building located outside the prison walls and B-Building situated within the facility.
MCI-Concord maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
