The Mendocino Co Jail, located at 951 Low Cap Rd in Ukiah, CA, is a secure detention center operated by the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office. This facility primarily houses individuals awaiting trial or sentencing, typically for less than two years. It accepts inmates from various jurisdictions, including surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service, and the Ukiah Police Department.

New detainees are regularly admitted to the jail, with some being released on bail or placed under pretrial services caseloads. Others await their court appearances at the facility, receiving necessary accommodations such as bedding and meals. View all arrest records here.

Inmates serving as trustees within the jail undertake various tasks, including cooking, laundry, and commissary management, often receiving minimal compensation or sentence reduction for their services.

The jail offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Alternatively, setting up an account through a third-party phone company may entail high fees per minute of usage. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

Participant Responsibilities

Inmates are responsible for:

– informing family and friends of dates and times of unavailability due to jobs, programs, court, etc. Inmates will NOT be retrieved from a job or programs to make a video visitation appointment.
– checking the video visitation unit for scheduled video visitation appointments (visits cannot be made any less than 48 hours prior to the date and time of the visit)

The scheduling party is responsible for:

– scheduling and payment of the video visit.
– knowing the inmate’s schedule and availability BEFORE scheduling the video visit
– ensuring computer/device possesses the technical requirements outlined by the vendor and available for viewing at www.legacyinmate.com.

BOTH parties are responsible for :

– appropriate behavior during video visits. Inappropriate behaviors may lead to disciplinary action, denial of future video visitation appointments, or denial of any outside party to schedule and conduct future video visitation sessions with an inmate.

– video visits starting on time! Video visits begin at the time selected by the person scheduling. If a 20-minute video visit is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. – 10:50 a.m., and the inmate does not get the video visit unit until 10:33 a.m., the visit will STILL end at 10:50 a.m.! The same applies to the scheduling party.

NOTE: Video visits are recorded and subject to review.
