Located at 16770 S Watertower Dr in Kincheloe, MI, KCF carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. KCF offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

The Kinross Correctional Facility, originally established in 1977 using converted U.S. Air Force buildings, underwent relocation to the closed Hiawatha Correctional Facility in October 2015. The facility, spanning 50 acres, comprises ten buildings, including an administration building, programs building, maintenance, food service, and indoor activity areas.

With eight Level II housing units capable of accommodating up to 1,280 prisoners and an additional housing unit near the former facility site housing 320 Level I prisoners, KCF serves as a correctional institution for male inmates aged 18 and older.

Programming at KCF focuses on education, vocational training, cognitive behavioral programs, substance abuse education, and counseling. The education department offers academic instruction toward General Education Development (GED) completion, while vocational training is available in Welding and CDL, with on-site simulators. Employment readiness and job counseling services are also provided.

Cognitive behavioral programming includes courses in the Violence Prevention Program, Michigan Domestic Violence Prevention (MiDVP), and Thinking for Change. Substance abuse education and counseling are integral parts of the rehabilitation efforts. Prisoner organizations, such as the Jaycees and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), are active within the facility. Religious services are conducted regularly with assistance from local community volunteers.

Recreational activities, including weightlifting and softball, are available for prisoners, who also have access to law and general libraries. Psychological services offer diagnostic assessment, individual therapy, and crisis intervention.

The facility houses a fully staffed on-site medical and dental care unit, with emergencies referred to a local hospital. Serious medical issues are addressed at the Duane L. Waters Health Care Facility in Jackson.

Security measures at KCF include a buffer fence, double chain link fences, razor-ribbon wire, electronic detection systems, and an armed patrol vehicle to ensure perimeter security and inmate safety.

The inmate answering has spent considerable time in the federal prison system, state and county jails, and in a prison that was run by the private prison entity CCA.
