MCF Faribault offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

MCF-Faribault comprises a medium-security facility and a minimum-security unit outside the secure perimeter, with a total capacity of 2,000 adult males, making it the largest facility in the DOC system. Notable features include MINNCOR Industries, offering various manufacturing opportunities, a 176-bed treatment unit for alcohol and drug abuse, and a unit designed for geriatric and vulnerable individuals who require specialized care.

Originally a state hospital shut down in the 1980s, MCF-Faribault was converted for correctional use in 1989 by legislative authorization. The facility provides comprehensive programming to support inmate rehabilitation and readiness for reintegration into society upon release.

Work assignments and programming at MCF-Faribault are diverse and extensive. The New Dimensions Chemical Dependency Program offers primary treatment groups and additional activities focusing on various aspects of recovery and life skills. Higher education offerings encompass college transfer coursework, college preparation coursework, and Accuplacer testing, with options for full-time AA programs and mechatronics training.

Transitions pre-release programming prepares inmates for their return to society through classes, employment seminars, budgeting and finance workshops, and drivers testing. MINNCOR provides opportunities for industry-diversified work, including woodshop, laundry, chemical bottling, and subcontract partnerships.

Volunteer programming involves over 400 volunteers offering religious services, support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, and alternatives to violence initiatives. Behavioral health services include assessment, individual and group therapy, and crisis intervention, covering a range of topics such as anger management, emotional intensity disorder, and transitional support services.
