The MCCI is a low/medium-security detention center located at 1 Waterworks Rd Freehold, NJ which is operated locally by the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Monmouth County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Freehold Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for New Jersey here.
The MCCI stands out as one of the nation's top ten largest correctional facilities, boasting an impressive occupancy rating of 1,328 inmates. Equipped with advanced systems such as the Objective Classification System for inmates and pod-style floor plans, alongside a highly trained correctional staff, MCCI prioritizes the safety and security of all individuals under its care.
Inmates at MCCI benefit from comprehensive healthcare, nutritious meals, and opportunities for religious, educational, and social programs aimed at improving life skills. Both outdoor recreation and indoor exercise options are provided, fostering physical and mental well-being. Access to a law library allows inmates to research their cases, while visitation, including contact and non-contact visits, is facilitated with certain restrictions. Private interview rooms are available for meetings with attorneys and law enforcement agencies, and the county collaborates with other entities to optimize bed space usage.
MCCI holds prestigious accreditations from the American Corrections Association (ACA) and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC), underscoring its commitment to maintaining high standards of operation and healthcare provision. These accreditations reflect the institution's dedication to excellence and accountability.
Moreover, MCCI's Inmate Labor Program demonstrates its commitment to community engagement and rehabilitation. In the past, inmate work crews have assisted Middletown Township with the restoration of the Civil War-era Compton’s Cemetery and supported various local nonprofit organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Boys and Girls Club, and veterans and seniors organizations.
