The Montrose County Detention Center is a detention center located at 1200 N Grand Ave Montrose, CO which is operated locally by the Montrose County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Montrose County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Montrose Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Colorado here.

For those sentenced to time in this facility, you will be assessed a $30.00 (thirty-dollar) booking fee on your first visit, please bring that with you.
When you arrive at the jail please come to the Visitation Lobby, press the button on the intercom to the left of the door and advise the control technician why you are here. Someone will come out to meet you. You will need to produce photo identification.
Cell phone, cigarettes, lighters, knives, and other weapons are not allowed into the facility. Please leave them with family or in your vehicle. It is best to bring as little with you as possible.
You must wear all “white” undergarments. Other than the thirty dollar booking fee, depending on your length of stay you may want to bring additional funds, as money will be deposited and returned to you when you leave in the form of a check or release money card, as directed by procedure.
Work Release And/or Alternative Sentencing The courts may grant the privilege of work release and/or Alternative Sentencing to an inmate when they are sentenced to jail. The court only grants the privilege, the jail will determine if an inmate can participate in a program granted by the courts.
There is an application packet that needs to be completed before a decision can be made. You should have picked this up at Court Security upon sentencing. In the event that you need a packet, please contact the Programs Lobby at 970-252-4070 to pick up the packet. There are fees that must be paid to the jail to participate in work release and/or any other program, contact the Programs Staff for current applicable fees.
Work Release applicants may report with all the documentation as directed by the courts and a supervisor may complete the approval. All Alternative Sentencing applicants must set up a time to see the Jail Administrator or designee for pre-approval. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary measures.
