The Delta County Detention Facility is a detention center located at 555 Palmer St Delta, CO which is operated locally by the Delta County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Delta County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Delta Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Colorado here.

The Delta Detention Facility was completed in 1986 and the off-site Work Release Facility in 2004. The Detention Facility has the ability to hold 73 male and female detainees and the Work Release Facility 25 male sentenced work release detainees. The Detention Facility was originally designed to hold 44 inmates, through creative modifications and moving work release inmates to a separate facility, we have been able to make additional beds available in the Detention Facility.

The Work Release Facility was opened in 2004. This program allows sentenced inmates, who have been determined not to be a threat to the community, the opportunity to leave the facility for work. Inmates pay $20 a day for this privilege. The Work Release Facility generated $71,868.00 in fees in 2015.

The average daily population in the Detention Facility for 2015 was approximately 49 inmates, and 12 inmates at the Work Release Facility. The average length of stay for an individual in 2015 was approximately 8 days. Our culinary staff served 48,715 meals in 2015 at a cost of $1.90 per meal.

The surveillance camera system was recently modified for real time recording 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Telephone systems are recorded and monitored as needed, and in 2015 the control room was upgraded with modern communication equipment and work stations.

TAC Program

The Delta County Sheriff's Office is a member of the Transports Across Colorado (TAC). TAC enables the Department to transport detainees to and from our facility at a lower cost to the taxpayers, rather than having to do all our own transports. This program has been very beneficial in promoting team work with departments across Colorado. The TAC program, North-West Transport program, and the cooperative efforts of transport teams on the Western Slope have saved thousands of dollars.
