Located at 2869 US 64 Alternate in Nashville, NC, Nash CI carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Nash CI offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

NCI serves as a medium-security prison for adult male offenders, housing a total of 512 individuals. Inmates at Nash CI reside in single cells and dayroom beds within the facility's expansive campus, which encompasses 15 buildings. These structures include medical facilities, vocational and recreational buildings, a gatehouse, a dining hall, a chapel, a 20-cell segregation unit, and four 128-cell housing units.

Within the institution, offenders have the opportunity to participate in various vocational programs and employment opportunities. Nash CI is home to two Correction Enterprises industrial plants: the Nash Print Planting, which produces documents and publications for government agencies, and the Optical Plant, responsible for manufacturing eyeglasses for offenders, Medicaid patients, and state employees. Additionally, internal supportive jobs in custodial work, landscaping, and food preparation are available to inmates.

Educational initiatives at Nash Correctional Institution encompass GED preparation courses and vocational training aimed at equipping inmates with skills applicable to future employment upon release. Moreover, all inmates have access to medical and dental treatment during their incarceration.

The Field Minister Education Program, a collaboration between Nash CI, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Joe Gibbs' Game Plan for Life organization, trains inmates to serve as field ministers within the prison system, providing spiritual guidance and support to fellow offenders.

The facility's history dates back to 1938 when the first prison, known as Nash Prison Unit, was established at the site. Over the years, Nash underwent several transformations, transitioning from a close custody facility to a misdemeanor facility, and eventually to a minimum custody unit. In 1970, it was renamed Nash Advancement Center before assuming the title of Nash Correctional Center in 1988. Finally, in 1992, Nash Correctional Center became part of the newly constructed Nash Correctional Institution.

Today, the old Nash Correctional Center facility serves a new purpose, utilized for training purposes and storage, while Nash CI continues its mission of housing and rehabilitating adult male offenders within a structured and secure environment.

Visitation Information

Visits to NCDPS offenders are by appointment only. Call the prison where the offender is housed to schedule an appointment. Visitors should call the prison the day before a scheduled visit to confirm the facility's visitation status. Also, video visitation now is available at most but not all prisons, so family and friends may be able to do a virtual visit if they prefer. Call the prison for additional information on video visitation at the facility.
Visitation by family and friends is encouraged and can make a positive difference during an offender's time in prison. Prison staff understand the importance of offenders maintaining contact with their family and friends. However, offenders can not be assigned to specific facilities within the prison system for the convenience of visitation.

For more information regarding prisons and visitation, please read the Handbook for Family and Friends of Offenders.
The increased safety and security measures are implemented to address, and ultimately eliminate, the introduction of contraband into state prisons. Any refusal to comply with all search procedures will result in the denial of entrance into the facility. Cell phones are considered contraband and are prohibited from all prison facilities. Appropriate attire is required.

Ask The Inmate

Ask a former inmate questions at no charge. The inmate answering has spent considerable time in the federal prison system, state and county jails, and in a prison that was run by the private prison entity CCA.
