How to Send Money to an Inmate in New Hampshire

How to deposit money to a New Hampshire DOC or county jail inmate. ConnectNetwork by GTL/ViaPath for NHDOC state prisons, Site ID 222, four account types, and county jail vendor differences.

If someone you love is locked up in New Hampshire, getting money into their account covers commissary - food, hygiene, phone time, writing supplies - and keeps the connection alive. New Hampshire's state prison system uses ConnectNetwork by GTL (now ViaPath) for all inmate communication and financial services. The deposit platform, phone accounts, messaging, and tablets all run through the same ConnectNetwork system - which simplifies things, but also means you need to know which account type to fund.

New Hampshire splits adult custody into two systems: the New Hampshire Department of Corrections (NHDOC) for state sentences, and county jails operated by county sheriffs or county departments of corrections. NHDOC does not operate county jails or federal prisons. New Hampshire has 10 counties, each with its own jail.

State prisons: NHDOC and ConnectNetwork by GTL/ViaPath

If your person is in an NHDOC state facility, all deposits and communication services go through ConnectNetwork, operated by GTL (now operating as ViaPath Technologies). The official NHDOC inmate communications page identifies ConnectNetwork by GTL/ViaPath as the contracted provider for most forms of inmate communication.

The NHDOC Site ID is 222. When making a Trust Fund or PIN Debit deposit through the ConnectNetwork automated phone system, you must reference Site ID 222 to ensure your deposit reaches the correct account.

Four account types

ConnectNetwork supports four types of accounts for NHDOC. Knowing which one you need prevents money from being posted to the wrong account.

Trust Fund - the commissary account. Money deposited here is available for the incarcerated person to spend at the facility canteen on food, hygiene items, clothing, writing supplies, and other approved purchases. This is the standard account most families fund.

AdvancePay Phone - a prepaid calling account linked to your phone number. You add funds to your own AdvancePay account, and when the incarcerated person calls you, the cost is deducted from your balance. This is the most common way to pay for incoming calls.

PIN Debit - phone time funded from the incarcerated person's own account. When the person calls, the cost is deducted from their PIN Debit balance rather than the caller's phone.

Community Corrections - for payments related to supervised release or community corrections programs.

How to deposit

Online - go to web.connectnetwork.com, create or log in to your account, select New Hampshire DOC, find your person, choose the account type, and deposit by credit or debit card. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Fees apply.

By mobile app - the ConnectNetwork app is available on Android and iOS with the same deposit functionality.

By automated phone - call GTL/ViaPath customer service at 877-650-4249. Reference Site ID 222 for Trust Fund or PIN Debit deposits through the automated system. The AdvancePay IVR line is 800-483-8314.

By kiosk - GTL/ViaPath kiosks are available at select locations. Check connectnetwork.com for locations.

By mail - mailed deposits are processed the next business day after GTL/ViaPath receives them. Availability of funds is subject to NHDOC facility policies after receipt.

Restitution, fines, and fees

Restitution payments and other court-ordered collections are also handled through ConnectNetwork or by check or money order. When paying by check or money order, include the name and ID number of the offender and mail to:

NHDOC, C/O Collections Unit

PO Box 3356

Concord, NH 03302

For electronic collections payments, use ConnectNetwork at web.connectnetwork.com. GTL customer service for collections questions: 877-650-4249.

The inmate number is required

The NHDOC inmate identification number is required for all deposit methods. Find it using the NHDOC Resident Locator at business.nh.gov/inmate_locator. Note that the locator only covers NHDOC state custody - people incarcerated at county jails will not appear in the NHDOC locator.

NHDOC state facilities

NHDOC operates the following adult facilities:

New Hampshire State Prison for Men (NHSP-M) - Concord

New Hampshire Correctional Facility for Women (NHCFW) - Concord

Northern NH Correctional Facility (NNHCF) - Berlin

Transitional Work Center (TWC) - Concord

Plus transitional housing units

NHDOC Headquarters: 64 South Street, Concord NH 03301; (603) 271-5600; PO Box 1806, Concord NH 03302.

County jails: vendor varies by county

New Hampshire has 10 counties, each with its own jail or house of corrections operated independently of NHDOC. NHDOC does not have jurisdiction over county jails - confirmed from the official NHDOC FAQ.

Hillsborough County Department of Corrections (Manchester), at 445 Willow Street, uses ICSolutions for phone services. For deposit questions call 603-627-5620 or ICSolutions at 888-506-8407.

Strafford County Department of Corrections (Dover), at 266 County Farm Road, uses ConnectNetwork/ViaPath for Trust Fund deposits. For deposit questions call the jail at 603-742-3310 or use web.connectnetwork.com.

Cheshire County Department of Corrections (Keene), at 825 Marlboro Road, has its own deposit process. Call 603-903-1600 for current instructions.

Access Securepak handles commissary packages at Hillsborough, Rockingham, and Strafford county jails. Contact Access Securepak at 1-800-546-6283 for package orders.

The vendor is county-specific - the only reliable way to find the current deposit vendor for a specific New Hampshire county jail is to check that county's website or call the facility directly.

Accounts do not transfer between vendors. When your person moves from a county jail to an NHDOC state prison, the county account stays with the county vendor. You set up new deposits through ConnectNetwork using the NHDOC inmate number and Site ID 222.

Federal custody in New Hampshire

New Hampshire has no federal Bureau of Prisons facilities within the state. Federal defendants from New Hampshire are typically housed at BOP facilities in other New England states, most commonly FMC Devens in Massachusetts or MDC Brooklyn. Deposits go through the BOP Trust Fund via Western Union, MoneyGram at retail, or online at bop.gov. You need the eight-digit BOP register number. Do not use NHDOC ConnectNetwork for federal inmates.

What to know before you send anything

Know the Site ID: 222. Required when depositing via the ConnectNetwork automated phone system. Without it your deposit may not reach the right account.

Know which account type you need. Trust Fund for commissary; AdvancePay for prepaid calling from your phone; PIN Debit for calling funded from the inmate's account. Funding the wrong type means the money is not available where the person needs it.

County jails are independent from NHDOC. The inmate locator at business.nh.gov/inmate_locator only shows NHDOC state custody. People in county jails will not appear there.
