Located at 4331 State Hwy 14 in Santa Fe, NM, PNM carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. PNM offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The Penitentiary of New Mexico (PNM) stands along the historic turquoise Trail, approximately 14 miles south of Santa Fe. As the Department’s sole super-max facility, PNM houses the highest security classification of offenders in the state. Comprising three facilities, including Level-II, Level-IV/V, and Level-VI units, PNM maintains national accreditation from the American Correctional Association. It prioritizes achieving the Corrections Department's mission by offering a balanced system approach to corrections, encompassing incarceration, community-based supervision, and comprehensive training, education, programs, and services aimed at facilitating offenders' transition to communities.
Within the New Mexico Corrections Department, the "level system" mandates the segregation of inmates who pose management challenges or cannot function within the general population. Such inmates are placed in behaviorally-based step programs, wherein increased privileges are granted to those demonstrating appropriate behavior over a specified period. This system ensures the safety and security of both inmates and staff while fostering an environment conducive to rehabilitation and reintegration.
PNM maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
