The Safer Foundation's North Lawndale Adult Transition Center (ATC), located in Chicago, is dedicated to reducing recidivism and supporting individuals with criminal records in their transition to employment and lawful community integration. With a capacity for 200 beds, the facility focuses on preparing work-release status offenders for parole, emphasizing active participation in programs to enhance security and promote successful reintegration. Housed in a single building with four community-style living units, North Lawndale ATC provides a structured environment for general population offenders.
Inmate programs at North Lawndale ATC encompass a variety of areas to address the diverse needs of residents. Academic offerings include General Educational Development (GED) and literacy programs, while volunteer services cover literacy support, faith-based initiatives, recreational activities, mentoring, counseling, and religious services. Additionally, the facility provides case management services, cognitive therapies, mental health support, substance abuse treatment, family services, employment retention training, community work crews, anger management programs, and life skills development to facilitate successful reintegration into society.
