JBCC is a State - minimum state correctional facility in McAlester, OK, operated by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Inmates serve sentences ranging from one year to life and have access to programs including education, vocational training, and work assignments. While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
Established in 1927 within a former hospital, JBCC originally served as a trusty unit of the adjacent Oklahoma State Penitentiary. However, it transitioned into a standalone institution in 1985. Named after former Oklahoma State Penitentiary Deputy Associate Warden Jackie Brannon, JBCC is situated on 1,506 acres in northwest McAlester and houses over 700 inmates across three housing units.
Within JBCC's expansive grounds, Agri-Services operates various agricultural facilities, including a meat processing center, a dairy and milk processing center, an egg distribution center, and both cow/calf and beef cattle operations.
JBCC hosts the Substance Abuse Treatment program, offering intensive cognitive treatment to offenders with documented substance abuse histories. The six-month program features sessions five days a week, five hours a day, with a maximum of forty participants per cycle. Throughout the program, participants engage in individual and group counseling sessions focused on behavioral modification, the effects of chemical abuse, goal setting, and relapse prevention. With two cycles per year, the program aims to support inmates in overcoming substance dependency and fostering positive behavioral change.
