Located at 2500 S Avon Belden Rd in Grafton, OH, GCI carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
GCI, situated in Lorain County, is a state prison operated by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Opened in 1988, it accommodates up to 2,074 inmates across minimum and medium security levels.
Inmates at GCI engage in correctional industries such as braille transcription and fragrance bottling. Community service opportunities include animal care, roadside cleanup, and book assembly. Academic courses are available for inmates without a high school diploma, enabling them to earn a GED or acquire adult basic education.
Apprenticeship programs in tailoring, landscaping, welding, culinary arts, and more aim to equip inmates with marketable skills for post-release employment. The Chaplain's office provides self-help programs, anger management, and religious services.
