All prisons and jails have Security or Custody levels depending on the inmate’s classification, sentence, and criminal history. Please review the rules and regulations for State - minimum facility.

NCI operates as a medium-security prison, accommodating approximately 3,036 inmates, including those in minimum security. The facility utilizes open dormitories for housing. While NCI has experienced higher rates of gang activity and violence compared to similar institutions, recent years have shown a decline in violence trends.
Vocational training is a cornerstone of NCI's rehabilitation efforts, offering programs in carpentry, electrical wiring, plaster/drywall, and turf management. Inmates lacking a diploma can enroll in adult basic education courses, with opportunities to earn a GED during their incarceration. Additionally, inmates contribute to the community through various service projects, including vehicle repairs, constructing picnic tables for Habitat for Humanity, and assisting with local shelters and social service programs.

These rooms are stocked with a diverse selection of children's books and arts and crafts supplies, enhancing the visiting experience for families.

Inmates engage in academic pursuits like adult basic education, GED preparation, and special education. The facility also provides access to computer labs, literacy tutor training, and transitional education television.
