The Otero County Detention Center is a detention center located at 1958 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr Alamogordo, NM which is operated locally by the Otero County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Otero County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Alamogordo Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Inmate Services
Medical Services: Health services are provided for medical screening, mental health, and daily medications. An inmate may request a medical appointment through the medical health staff or through the electronic kiosk system. Appointments are scheduled as necessary by the nursing staff.
Food Service: Otero County Food Service employees prepare nutritionally approved meals and work to ensure that sanitation and quality products are provided for optimal results. All meals are prepared in the detention center’s kitchen and served three times a day.
Laundry Service: The detention center has its own laundry room where uniforms, linens, and underclothing are cleaned and redistributed on a weekly schedule.
Commissary Service: Swanson Commissary Services provides commissary to the detention facility each week. Inmates who have funds in their accounts (and not restricted from the commissary privilege) may purchase a variety of personal hygiene items, snacks, writing materials, games, and clothing.
Programs Offenders will be provided the broadest possible range of programs and services that structural and security limitations allow. Self improvement programs will be available equitably to male and female offenders.

The Detention Center's Community Custody Program (CCP) is founded on the concept of community-based supervision and treatment. The program was developed to provide the use of electronic monitoring to ease institutional overcrowding, saving tax payers money, and allow defendants to gain and maintain employment and family connections. With Court approval, sentenced/pre-trial inmates may enter the program at any stage of their incarceration. When an inmate is removed from the Detention Facility and returned to his or her home, job and neighborhood, this is considered a positive step forward in attempting to reintegrate the program inmate into the community. Inmates are placed in the community and monitored on a daily basis to insure compliance while ensuring the safety of the community.
Community Custody Program RequirementsDefendant's eligibility is based on a multiple components including: court ordered by a presiding judge, client's criminal record, a warrant check, review of institutional records including incident and disciplinary reports, prior participation of CCP.
The defendant must have a permanent residence and or permission from the owner of the residence to reside there. The defendant will read, sign and agree to comply with the CCP rules. Also the owner of the residence must agree to comply with CCP rules.
For Example:
1. No alcohol allowed in the residence.
2. No firearms or dangerous weapons allowed in the residence.
3. No illegal drugs (this includes synthetic drugs of any kind and non-prescribed drugs) in the residence.
4. Must obey all city, county, state and federal laws.
The owner of the residence is in agreement that the Community Custody Program is allowed full and complete access to the residence in which the defendant is residing.
The defendant cannot live with the alleged victim(s) unless authorized by the presiding Judge.
A basic land line must be installed prior to the inmate being accepted into the program. The phone line must not have any of the following: No two way line, No Internet service, No cordless phone, and No other features (i.e. Caller Id, Call Waiting, etc...)
What Happens?All defendants will wear a Transmitter or tracker (ankle bracelet) which tracks movement in and out of the home of the inmate on CCP. Clients must remain at home unless permitted by their CCP Officer to be elsewhere. Failure to comply will result in loss of CCP and could face additional criminal charges.
All defendants will be subject to random drug testing. If a defendant shows a positive result for ANY ILLEGAL NARCOTIC or ALCOHOL, they will lose their CCP privileges and will be returned to the detention center and face disciplinary action. The Presiding Judge in the case will be notified of the violation.
All Inmates are subject to random visits to their place of residence or place of employment by the Community Custody Program Officers.
What Will it Cost?The defendant is required to pay in advance a process fee of $25.00, Urinalysis fee of $10.00, and the first week of the electronic monitor equipment cost prior to entering the program.

VISITING DAYS AND HOURS FOR ADULT INMATES:
Tuesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
You must be signed in before 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS. Visits on Tuesdays and Saturdays will remain 15 minutes. Inmates are brought out only one (1) time to visit each visiting day regardless of how many visitors are present.
CELL PHONES ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE FACILITY; If you are caught with a Cell Phone you will be asked to leave the facility and denied visitation for the day.
If your name is listed differently on visitation list, but you are married to the Inmate YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE A MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE.
Only persons listed on the Inmate’s Authorization List may visit. The list is completed by the inmate at the time they are processed into the facility and can not be changed.
The Visitation Dress Code listed below will be adopted and utilized Effective August 28, 2014. Individuals determined to be inappropriately dressed WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO VISIT. It is recommended to dress conservatively; Determination is at the discretion of the Visitation Officer/Administration. Any alteration to clothing once in the visiting area will be grounds for termination of visit. Please read the following:
• No Steel toed boots or shoes
• Clothing must fit appropriately (no sagging or bagging allowed)
• Proper undergarments are to be worn
• Dresses, skirts or shorts must be mid-thigh or longer
• No mini-skirts or similar attire
• No sexually explicit, obscene/offensive language on clothing
• No clothing that resembles inmate attire
• No gang referencing material
• No transparent or see through attire
• No bare midriff or low cut/revealing neck lines
• No backless tops, tube tops, halter tops or tank tops
• No skin tight clothing
