The Platte Co Jail is a low/medium-security detention center located at 415 3rd St Ste 10 Platte City, MO which is operated locally by the Platte County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Platte County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Platte City Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Missouri here.

Platte County MO Detention Division - Handbook
The Detention Division is primarily responsible for the safe and secure management of adult offenders housed in the Platte County Detention Center. The Platte County Detention Center is a modern 180-bed facility that houses local, state and federal detainees at various stages of the criminal justice process. The Detention Division is collaterally responsible for inmate medical care, food services and transportation.

COMMISSARY

Your money was placed into your personal commissary account after you were booked in and prior to being assigned to housing. These funds may be used to purchase approved items during your incarceration. Funds may not be transferred to another inmate(s) account.

The facility normally issues a debit card for your remaining commissary funds at the time of release/transfer.

Unpaid medical costs or other incarceration-related expenses you owe may be deducted from your commissary funds.

The Commissary Program normally operates as follows:

  1. Commissary funds may only be deposited:
    1. in-person using cash/credit cards via the deposit kiosk located outside the facility’s visitation entrance, or
    2. by visiting www.inmatecanteen.com (TurnKeyCorrections.com). Detention staff members are prohibited from accepting, depositing or processing funds sent through the U.S. Mail. Deposit funds, with the exception of other correctional facilities sent through the mail, will be returned to sender unprocessed.
  2. You may order commissary items using the kiosk available in the dayroom. You must have sufficient funds in your account to purchase commissary items; the purchase cost is directly deducted from your commissary account by the commissary provider. Your order will not be processed as ordered if you do not have sufficient funds to cover your desired purchases. Commissary is normally distributed twice weekly (the actual day may vary based on operational priorities/housing assignment).
  3. You are prohibited from purchasing commissary items for other inmates. You may not give commissary items to other inmates upon your transfer/release.
  4. The Platte County Detention Center does not warranty the operation of MP3 players, pens, or any other items from their manufacturers; all purchases are on an as-received basis. Typically, only damages or shortages identified upon delivery to you may be replaced.
  5. You have only 5 business days to claim your commissary, if released prior to receiving your order. Unclaimed orders will be placed in oversupply. Refunds are not provided.

The Commissary Program is a privilege and not an inmate right. Program participation is subject to suspension at any time without notice.

INMATE MAIL PROCEDURES

All incoming mail is checked for contraband by detention staff. Professional mail (legal and governmental correspondence) is accepted to the facility without request for exception. Mail that is clearly labeled as legal/governmental paperwork will be opened and examined for contraband, in your presence, and will not be read by detention staff members. Letters from an inmate to his/her attorney are mailed without examination or censorship.

Non-legal/non-governmental correspondence is accepted in the form of postcards. This practice provides a safer, contraband-free environment for both inmates and detention staff. All postcards not meeting the standards listed below will be returned to sender. Requests for exceptions to the postcard requirement (family pictures, etc.) must be made by submission of an Inmate Request. All exceptions require prior approval of the Detention Division Commander or designee. You may have only one pending picture request at a time. The request must include the sender’s full name and address. Mail opened consistent with a mail exception and identified as not meeting the standards, will be placed in the inmate’s property. The sender of rejected mail (either returned to sender or placed in the inmate’s property) will be notified in writing. Outgoing mail is not similarly restricted.

Related requirements are as follows:

  • Postcards may be no larger than 4.25 inches by 6 inches and must be properly addressed; must contain the sender’s name/return address and the inmate’s name (and preferably) cell assignment in addition to the Platte County Detention Center address listed below.
  • Metered post cards are preferred and will generally be delivered unaltered; stamped mail will have the stamps removed which will likely damage some portion of the postcard.
  • Postcards containing stickers, adhesive labels, watermarks, stains, lipstick, and/or any other suspect alteration/adulteration will be returned to sender.

Money orders, personal checks/cash for commissary deposit are not accepted through the mail (see COMMISSARY).

You may send outgoing mail as often as you wish, provided your letters do not violate United States Post Office regulations or the safe and secure operations of the Platte County Detention Center. You are required to include your name and the full return address on outgoing mail. Failure to do so will result in the mail being returned to you for correction. Your mailing address while in custody of the Platte County Detention Center is:

Platte County Detention Center
C/O (your name and cell location)
415 Third Street, Suite 10
Platte City, Missouri 64079

You are responsible for advising family and friends of the proper mailing address. The sender’s full name and complete return address are required on all correspondence. Mail without the complete name and return address will be placed in your property.

The Platte County Detention Center offers the ability to send and receive secure e-mail. Secure e-mail is conducted through the kiosk in the dayroom and costs $0.25 per message. All e-mails are subject to monitoring. Inappropriate or abusive e-mails may result in disciplinary restrictions.

Inmates housed in separate dayrooms are not allowed to correspond/communicate by any means. Examples of prohibited communication include, but are not limited to: the passing of notes, telephone conference calls, U.S. Mail, and voice. If inmates are of immediate family, incarcerated in excess of 30 days and require direct communication due to exigent circumstances, the inmates must submit an Inmate Request to the Detention Division Commander, who may make an exception to this rule upon a demonstration of sufficient need. Correspondence between inmates held at different institutions is also prohibited, for security reasons. The Detention Division Commander, upon receipt of an Inmate Request, may grant an exception and permit correspondence between family members held at different institutions. The inmate must provide hard-copy documentation of the relationship (marriage license, birth certificate, etc).

Exceptions to the aforementioned rules are at the Detention Division Commander’s discretion and may be subject to such restrictions, as necessary.

The Detention Division Commander and/or designee reserve the right to search any incoming/outgoing correspondence as a preventive security measure.

Inmate Locator

Platte County MO Detention Center publishes the names of the inmates currently in their facility in Missouri. Your search should start with this locator first to see if your loved one is there.

The second box is the InmateAid Inmate Search. This database of inmates is user-generated content to access and utilize any or all of the InmateAid services. If you need our assistance creating your inmate profile to keep in touch, email us at aid@inmateaid.com and we will assist you in locating your inmate.

As a last resort, you might have to pay for that information if we do not have it. The Arrest Record Search will cost you a small amount, but their data is the freshest available and for that reason, they charge to access it.

Ask The Inmate

Ask a former inmate questions at no charge. The inmate answering has spent considerable time in the federal prison system, state and county jails, and in a prison that was run by the private prison entity CCA. Ask your question or browse previous questions in response to comments or further questions of members of the InmateAid community.
