The Ramsey County Correctional Facility (Workhouse) is a low/medium-security detention center located at 297 South Century Ave St. Paul, MN which is operated locally by the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Ramsey County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, St. Paul Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Ramsey County MN Correctional Facility (Workhouse) - Visitation

The Ramsey County Correctional Facility offers a variety of programs for inmates who want to get their GED, learn new skills, begin a recovery program, or explore their faith.

  • Men’s and women’s learning centers: The centers provide adult basic education programs in reading, writing, math, and GED prep as well as classes on personal finance, job seeking and retention, career exploration, computer skills, and driver’s license preparation and testing.
  • Library: The library is run by community-based volunteers and is updated weekly with new and used books.
  • Health care: Health care professionals work with inmates onsite to provide access to medication, test for diseases, collect lab work, promote good health care habits, assist with evaluating suicidal tendencies and provide, dialysis, physical therapy, and OB/GYN services. Health and medical information about inmates is private and cannot be shared with anyone, not even the family.
  • Religious services: Sunday morning services, values group, and one-on-one counseling is available in multiple denominations and faiths to all inmates. Inmates may have religious items, such as books, if authorized by the Ramsey County Correctional Facility Chaplain.
  • Recovery programs: Alcoholics Anonymous, Avalon and Relapse Recovery are available for inmates dealing with alcohol, drug or other addictions.
  • Work crew jobs: Most inmates are assigned to jobs in the kitchen, laundry room, golf course, nursery, or dorm cleaners.
  • Workforce programs: The Ramsey County Correctional Facility and Century College work together to provide workforce development training. Inmates learn new skills both in the classroom and in a hands-on environment in the facility’s nursery, kitchen and laundry. The programs are certified by Century College and taught by the learning center school instructors and correctional officers.

The work/school release program allows inmates to continue their job or attend a college while at the facility. Inmates may drive themselves to and from work or school if they have proof of auto insurance and have a valid driver’s license. We do not provide transportation. The Ramsey County Correctional Facility is on Metro Transit bus route 70D.

Eligibility requirements

  • Must be authorized by your judge
  • Must be authorized by your probation officer, if you have one
  • Be drug and alcohol free
  • Have no warrants or detainers
  • Provide proof of a job (W-2 forms, paycheck stubs, or tax records) for Work Release
  • Provide your class schedule for School Release
  • Have had the job for at least two weeks or already attending the school
  • Your employer must agree

Visitation Information

Ramsey County MN Correctional Facility (Workhouse) - Visitation

Visitors should arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled visit time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, the visit may be cancelled. If you miss two visits, you may lose future visiting privileges. The Ramsey County Correctional Facility is on Metro Transit bus route 70D.

  • Saturday and Sunday at 12:30 p.m., 1:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Visiting rules

  1. If you are over 18, you need to bring a photo ID.
  2. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be with you or you need to prove you are married to the offender you are visiting.
  3. Only three visitors are allowed per visit. Children under age two do not count towards this total.
  4. You cannot visit a person if there is a Restraining Order or No Contact Order between you.
  5. All visits are monitored and may be recorded.
  6. You must sit where you are assigned and can only move if staff tells you to.
  7. If inmates break facility rules, they may temporarily lose visiting privileges.
  8. Inappropriate or suggestive behavior is not allowed.
  9. You must wear appropriate clothing. You must wear shoes and a shirt, and can’t wear any see-through, sheer, or suggestive clothes.
  10. Cell phone use, smoking, eating, and drinking are not allowed in the lobby or visiting room.
  11. You must supervise your children and can’t leave them unattended for any reason.
  12. You must cancel a visit before it starts by going online or calling the visiting line. If you miss two visits, you may lose future visiting privileges.
  13. If you look like you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you won’t be allowed to start your visit and will be asked to leave. This may also affect your future visiting privileges.
  14. You can’t talk loudly, be disruptive, or be very emotional during the visit. This includes any type of abusive or inappropriate language, loud noises, sexual or disturbing behavior, or anything that interferes with other visits.
  15. Don’t tamper with any of the video equipment in the visiting room.
  16. The introduction of contraband to a facility or its grounds is an offense punishable by law (MS 243.55 Subd. 1).
  17. The Ramsey County Correctional Facility is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.
  18. If you need reasonable accommodation for a disability, contact the Administration Offices at 651-266-1401 at least one day before your visit.
  19. You are not allowed to physically discipline children on RCCF property. If you do, your visit will end, a formal report will be written, and authorities will be informed.
  20. If you break any of these rules, your visit may end and you may lose any future visiting privileges.
  21. You may be banned, if the RCCF has reason to believe, you tried to do anything to subvert facility security or engaged in other suspicious of inappropriate conduct.
