The Rutherford Co Jail is a detention center located at 940 New Salem Hwy Murfreesboro, TN which is operated locally by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Rutherford County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Murfreesboro Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Tennessee here.

Inmates can enroll in educational, rehabilitation and faith-based programs offered to improve themselves and give skills to keep them from repeating crimes upon release.

With a goal to change behavior and reduce recidivism rates, programs assist inmates in the transition to a healthy, productive life outside the facility. These programs focus on successful, lawful living by changing old, destructive and illegal behaviors. These programs focus on changing behaviors through education, faith and treatment.

Some of the programs offered are the HiSet/GED preparation course, Alcoholics Anonymous, life skills, parenting, Reformers Unanimous, Bible studies and church services. More programs will be added when a classroom is completed this year.

Non-violent inmates with lesser charges are chosen to be trustees who work under supervision by cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, washing cars, mowing and maintaining the building and grounds. They save the county money on the upkeep of the building and grounds. State law allows trusties to work off one day of their sentence for every day of labor.
