Santa Fe Co Detention is for County Jail offenders sentenced up to twenty four months.

All prisons and jails have Security or Custody levels depending on the inmate’s classification, sentence, and criminal history. Please review the rules and regulations for County - medium facility.

The Santa Fe Co Detention is a detention center located at 28 Camino Justica Sante Fe, NM which is operated locally by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Santa Fe County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Sante Fe Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for New Mexico here.

Inmate Mail Policy and Procedure

Effective immediately the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility will NO longer be accepting any Priority Mail.
All mail must be mailed in to Santa Fe County Adult Correctional Facility through the U.S. Postal Service, or similar delivery service. No mail is permitted to be “dropped off."

Inmate Account Balances

  • Effective April 25th, 2019 money that is being sent to the inmates for his/her personal use is subject to balance limitation. Inmates will only be allowed to have $200.00 balance in their inmate trust accounts at any given time. If the inmates have a $200.00 balance in their accounts no additional will be accepted. If a money order is sent in, it will not be accepted and the money order will be returned to sender.

Money Orders:

  • Cash, personal checks, and Payroll Checks not accepted
  • Money orders and cashier’s checks ONLY
  • Money orders and cashier’s checks must contain Inmates Name and ID# (Found in Inmate Lookup)
  • Inmates MUST submit friend and family member information to their designated caseworker prior to receiving money orders and/or cashier’s checks.

Denied Mail:

  • ALL mail is inspected and searched for contraband
  • No polaroid Photos
  • No damaged or tampered (manipulated) photos
  • No more than 6 photos per envelope
  • No Photos larger than 5x7 in.
  • No nudity or gang affiliated photos and/or propaganda
  • No picture collages (photos must be CUT out of photo sheets)
  • No Drawings in color pencil, markers, Crayola, paint, water colors etc.
  • No Letters written in Multi Colored Gel Pens. (Black or Blue Pen only)
  • No Letters typed in Multi Colored Ink. (Black or Blue Ink Only)
  • No Letters written or typed on multi colored paper. (White or college ruled paper only)
  • No Damaged or Tampered (manipulated) Letters
  • No Jewelry, trinkets, or loose items (this includes Prayer Rosaries)
  • No news clippings
  • No magazine clippings
  • No calling cards
  • No laminated items
  • No Plastic items of any kind
  • No stationary items such as: stamps, envelopes, or blank paper
  • No stickers, they will be removed and discarded (including address Labels
  • Information and materials which would create a significant threat to the security or order of the facility or to the physical safety of an individual
  • Threats of Blackmail or extortion
  • Plans of sending or receiving contraband
  • Plans of escape
  • Plans of activities in violation of facility regulation order or policy
  • Criminal activity or plans of criminal activity
  • Coded messages that are NOT reasonably decipherable by the reader
  • Graphic presentation of sexual behavior that are in violation of law or material, which advocate or may lead to prohibited sexual activity, to include personal photos showing nudity (Ex. Soft Pornography)
  • Mail received or sent from one correctional facility to another not approved by the Warden
  • Mail received or sent from one inmate to another while housed in the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility and not approved by the Warden
  • Any mail received that promotes gang or gang activities, will be submitted to the STIU department for determination of appropriateness or rejection of mail
  • Publications and Subscriptions Allowed with Prior Approval. Inmate is allowed up to two (2) publications or subscriptions at a time.
  • No reading material that has been sent in by a family member or friend will be accepted. (Must come directly from publishing house or Online book store)
  • Letters, pictures, and envelopes containing: Cosmetics, Perfumes, Glitter, Cologne, or any other unknown substance.
  • No Greeting Cards of any kind (Xerox black and white copies only)

Santa Fe County Detention Center - Visitation

  • Monday/Tuesday - No Visits
  • Wednesday - Alpha/Charlie housed inmates
  • Thursday - Bravo/Delta housed inmates
  • Friday - Special Management Unit and Medical housed inmates
  • Saturday - Bravo/Delta housed inmates
  • Sunday - Alpha/Charlie housed inmates

Times

  • 7:00 am - 8:00 am - First hour of sign in and visits will begin
  • 8:15 am - 9:30 am - No Movement due to facility Count
  • 9:30 am - 1:00 pm - continued sign in and visits
  • 1:45 pm - 3:00 pm - No Movement due to facility Count
  • 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Last hour of sign in
  • 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Last hour of visits

NOTE: Special Housing inmates will be required to pre-schedule their approved visits through their case managers on a weekly basis. Case managers will conduct weekly rounds with these inmates, collect their visiting requests, and schedule such visits accordingly

Immediate Family Members - defined as a spouse, parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, step-parent, foster child, father or mother-in-law, and brother or sister-in-law. The Detention Center does NOT recognize domestic partner's child and domestic partner's parents as immediate family.

Community Ties - The Detention Center encourages visitation for inmates to reunify with their immediate family during their period of incarceration at the facility.

The Sante Fe Detention Center reserves the right to deny or cancel any visit, if dignity, respectfulness, and other general compliance to established rules and regulations are not followed. In addition, due to the fact that this is a multi-custody facility, there may be unforeseen incidents that result in emergency lockdowns, during which times visits may also be cancelled

Visitation Conduct

  • Abusive language of staff is prohibited. Visit may be terminated for failure to follow directive
  • Conduct by visitors and inmates shall be quiet, orderly and respectful of others; unruly behavior is prohibited
  • Visitors may only visit one inmate per visit
  • Adults must have proper control of their minor children while on facility property or will be asked to leave
  • Visitors are not allowed to remain in their cars, loitering or smoking in the parking lot of the facility

Upon entering you may have on your person, the following:

  • ID card or driver's license
  • Keys to your automobile
  • One diaper for each hour of visitation; one blanket no larger than 4' x 4'; one container of baby wipes
  • One baby carrier per infant, no strollers or carriers on wheels allowed.

**All other items must remain in your vehicle
