The Sarpy Co Jail is a detention center located at 1206 Golden Gate Dr Papillion, NE which is operated locally by the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Sarpy County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Papillion Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

The Sarpy County Correctional Center in Papillion, Nebraska, is a modern county-operated detention facility that also houses ICE detainees under contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Located just southwest of Omaha in rapidly growing Sarpy County, the correctional center primarily serves local criminal detention needs but has increasingly become part of the broader federal immigration detention network through intergovernmental agreements with ICE. The facility houses detainees awaiting immigration proceedings, transfer, or removal actions, particularly as federal authorities continue expanding detention partnerships throughout the Midwest.

The current Sarpy County Correctional Center maintains a capacity of roughly 550 inmates, though county officials are actively expanding detention infrastructure due to overcrowding and sustained regional population growth. Sarpy County has already moved forward with development of a new adjacent correctional facility expected to add another 400 beds to the county’s detention system. The existing jail includes secure housing units, medical sections, booking and intake areas, classification space, video visitation systems, transportation infrastructure, and inmate program areas designed to support both county inmates and federally contracted detainees. The center is considered one of the more modern county detention operations in Nebraska.

The facility operates under the authority of the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, currently led by Sheriff Greg London. Sheriff London oversees county law enforcement operations throughout one of Nebraska’s fastest-growing counties, where suburban expansion tied to the Omaha metropolitan area has dramatically increased demands on public safety infrastructure. While ICE detainees housed at the correctional center remain under federal immigration authority, the county receives compensation through federal detention agreements, reportedly earning roughly $100 per detainee per day under existing ICE arrangements.

Unlike many large privately operated immigration detention centers found in Texas, Arizona, and Louisiana, the Sarpy County Correctional Center functions primarily as a local county jail with supplemental ICE housing capabilities. This distinction gives the facility a different operational atmosphere than dedicated federal immigration detention compounds. Nebraska has historically maintained fewer large-scale immigration detention sites compared to southern border states, making county partnerships like Sarpy County increasingly important as ICE expands detention capacity beyond traditional border regions. Recent reports have shown detainees transferred into Nebraska facilities from states including Minnesota as federal detention populations continue increasing nationwide.

The Sarpy County Correctional Center has gained greater attention in recent years because of the expanding role local county jails now play in federal immigration detention operations. Advocacy organizations, attorneys, and immigration policy groups have increasingly monitored detention agreements between ICE and county facilities throughout the Midwest. Despite this scrutiny, Sarpy County continues participating in federal detention contracts while simultaneously investing heavily in future correctional expansion projects designed to address long-term incarceration and detention demands within the Omaha metropolitan region. As federal immigration enforcement priorities evolve, the Sarpy County Correctional Center is expected to remain part of ICE’s growing network of county-based detention partnerships across the central United States.

Inmate Locator

Finding an Inmate at Sarpy County Correctional Center (ICE)

If you're trying to locate someone in custody at Sarpy County Correctional Center (ICE) in Papillion, Nebraska, the fastest path depends on how recently the arrest happened, what type of facility holds the inmate, and how quickly that facility updates its public records. There is no single nationwide inmate database that covers every detention facility in real time, so locating a specific person often means checking multiple sources or calling Sarpy County Correctional Center (ICE) directly at 402-949-3876.

Using the InmateAid Inmate Search

The InmateAid inmate search is the fastest starting point for locating someone at Sarpy County Correctional Center (ICE). The search pulls from facility rosters, booking systems, and arrest record databases to return current custody status, charges, and housing facility. If the person was arrested or transferred recently and doesn't appear yet, the facility likely hasn't updated its public roster, which can lag by hours or a full business day. Try again later or call 402-949-3876 to confirm.

When the Inmate Doesn't Appear in the Search

Several explanations are possible if a person isn't showing up. The booking may not be complete. The person may have been released, transferred to another facility, or moved to federal or immigration custody. Some facilities deliberately delay public records by 24 to 72 hours for security reasons. Minors are never published in any public locator regardless of facility. To rule out a transfer or release, call 402-949-3876 and ask the booking desk to confirm current status.

What You'll Need to Search Effectively

Have ready: full legal name and any aliases, date of birth, and approximate date of arrest. If you know which agency made the arrest, that narrows results significantly. A booking number locates the record immediately. Without at least a full name and approximate date, searches return too many results to be useful.

Once You've Located the Inmate

When you confirm the person is at Sarpy County Correctional Center (ICE), set up a prepaid phone account so you don't miss the first call, and arrange any money transfer or commissary funding needed. For phone discount plans, money transfer, and mail services available at Sarpy County Correctional Center (ICE), see InmateAid's inmate services and call 402-949-3876.
