The St. Louis Medium is a detention center located at 7600 N Hall St St. Louis, MO which is operated locally by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. St. Louis County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, St. Louis Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. If you are putting money into the inmate's commissary account, please proceed the inmate master number (IMN) with zeros (0) to total 8-digits; example: if the IMN is 12345, you would enter 00012345

Visitation Information

St. Louis City Medium Security Institution - Visitation

Only pre-approved adults and children accompanied by a pre-approved adult may visit inmates in the City of St. Louis, Division of Corrections.

Those inmates assigned to disciplinary segregation are not eligible for social visits.

Preparation

Before you visit an inmate you must get authorization

  • Each inmate receives five (5) Visitor Request Forms during orientation
  • Those forms are mailed by the inmate to their chosen 5 family or friends
  • Those potential visitors must complete the form and mail it to the City Justice Center:

  • A Criminal History Record Check is performed on each person completing and submitting the Visitor Request Form. The person completing the form is only approved to visit if all of the following applies:
    • No active warrants
    • Not recently released from a penal institution within the past 180 days
    • Not on probation or parole; if you are, you must have a handwritten approval letter from your Parole Officer
  • All forms are maintained by the Case Workers
  • Call the Case Worker to ensure you are approved
    • At CJC, call (314) 621-5848; give the operator the inmate's name and they will locate and transfer you to the correct Case Worker
    • At MSI, call (314) 389.4790; give the operator the inmate's name and they will locate and transfer you to the correct Case Worker

There are separate contacts for persons who have themselves been incarcerated within the past year.

Instructions

  1. Call the MSI or CJC to determine the location of the inmate

  2. Receive a Visitor Request Form from the inmate in the mail.

  3. Send in the filled out Visitor Request Form to:

  4. After sending in the Visitor Request Form call the caseworker for the inmate to determine if they approve the visitation.

    • At CJC, call (314) 621-5848; give the operator the inmate's name and they will locate and transfer you to the correct Case Worker
    • At MSI, call (314) 389.4790; give the operator the inmate's name and they will locate and transfer you to the correct Case Worker

Visiting Inmates at Medium Security Institution (MSI)

  • Visiting schedule changes weekly
  • Scheduled visitations are based on the dormitory where the inmate is housed
  • Call Medium Security Institution (MSI) at (314) 389.4790, ext. 8400 to ask about the visiting schedule for the week
  • Visitors must be approved through the above process to visit
  • Social visits at MSI are one hour and fifteen minutes
  • Please arrive 15 min before the scheduled visiting time to register

Visiting Inmates at the City Justice Center (CJC)

  • The inmates request the dates and times of their social visits, and are permitted one (1) social visit per week
  • There are no social visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Social visits at City Justice Center are Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays for 40 minutes each beginning at 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 7:40 p.m., and 8:40 p.m.
  • The inmate must request the social visit two (2) days in advance from their Housing Unit Officer
  • Visitors must be pre-approved through the above process to visit
  • Please arrive 15 min before the scheduled visiting time to register

What to Expect

  • You must be pre-approved to visit the inmate
  • You can not bring any items to give to the inmate
  • Money may be deposited for the inmate at the kiosks located in the lobby of the City Justice Center or the Medium Security Institution
  • No tank tops, hoodies or jackets can be taken to visiting areas. Dresses should be worn at or below the knees. Head gear should be worn ONLY for religious purposes.
  • Space is limited, so do not bring purses, bags, or large items that will not fit in a small locker.
  • Visitors are subjected to a frisk search and may be denied entry if they are inappropriately dressed, uncooperative with staff, appear to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, or present a disruption or any other security breaches

Additional Information

Visiting periods begin promptly; late arrivals will not be permitted to visit.

It is recommended that visitors arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visiting time to ensure sufficient time for the visitor registration process.

Minor children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.

Visitors are expected to conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times. Failure to comply will result in the cancellation of the social visit, the visitor being escorted out of the facility and placed on the NO-ADMIT list.

Visitors who engage in conduct in the facility that violates State or Local Law, and/or who have active warrants are also subject to arrest.
