The Sweetwater Co Jail is a detention center located at 50140 Hwy 191 S Rock Springs, WY which is operated locally by the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Sweetwater County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Rock Springs Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The detention section serves at the direction of the detention section captain and detention section lieutenant and is primarly tasked with managing day-to-day operations of the county's only jail - Sweetwater County Detention Center.
Built in 2005, Sweetwater County Detention Center is a state-of-the-art facility housing all persons arrested or incarcerated in Sweetwater County as well as those inmates-in-transit from across the state (and sometimes from across the country). Our facility features a maximum prisoner capacity of over 200 inmates and is one of only four county facilites across the state with a separate juvenile holding facility (which is legally required to house juvenile inmates).
Sweetwater County Detention Center is a large and complex operation staffed by over 50 Sheriff's Office employees including approximately 20 state-certified detention officers, 10 control-room operators (for around-the-clock coverage) and numerous support staff (such as various administrative, transport and medical personnel).

To get to the Detention Center, take exit 99 from Interstate 80 onto US Highway 191 South and proceed south 1.4 miles on Hwy 191 (the jail will be on your right).
