Telford Unit is for State Prison offenders sentenced anywhere from one year to life by the State Court in the county where the charges were filed

Located at 3899 State Hwy 98 in New Boston, TX, Telford Unit carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Telford Unit offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The Telford Unit, exclusively housing male inmates, accomodates a capacity of 2,019 and accommodates custody levels ranging from G1 to G5, including security detention and safekeeping. Situated on an expansive 1,206-acre property, the unit is equipped with various agricultural operations, including security horses, pack canines, and cultivation of crops in the unit garden and food bank garden program.
While lacking manufacturing and logistics operations, Telford prioritizes facility maintenance to ensure seamless operations. It also employs scent-specific canines to enhance security measures within the facility.
In terms of healthcare, Telford offers comprehensive services, including ambulatory medical, dental, and mental health care, available round the clock. With a 17-bed infirmary and telemedicine services, it ensures timely and efficient medical attention for inmates. Moreover, all medical services are conveniently accessible on a single level, with housing accommodations for CPAP users.
The educational landscape at Telford is rich and diverse, offering literacy programs, pre-release initiatives, and cognitive intervention courses. Career and technology programs, such as construction carpentry, electrical trades, and small engine repair, provide inmates with valuable vocational skills for their reintegration into society.
Additional support services include adult education programs, chaplaincy services, crime stoppers, faith-based dormitories, and the GO KIDS initiative, promoting personal development and rehabilitation. The Life Decisions Program, peer education, and reentry planning further equip inmates with the necessary tools for a successful transition post-incarceration.
Community engagement is a core focus at Telford, with inmates participating in various work projects for city and county agencies, area school districts, and the Texas Department of Transportation. Telford Unit maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
Visitation plays an important role in maintaining the association between inmates and their friends and family as well as strengthening family ties. Visitation Procedure Update (effective December 28, 2023)

Confirm the unit visitation schedule and verify that visitation has not been canceled. An eligible inmate cannot receive visitors if visitation has been canceled.

Special visits or visits requiring special accommodations should be arranged before the visit. If you have made special arrangements with the unit, call before leaving to ensure that plans for your visit have been made and are in place. Spiritual visits must be coordinated through the warden’s office.
Each inmate is only allowed one visit per weekend. To the extent possible, individuals on an inmate’s Visitors List should coordinate with one another and with the inmate to prevent subsequent visitors from being declined when they arrive at the unit.
