Located at 2665 Prison Rd 1 in Lovelady, TX, Wainright Unit carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Wainright Unit offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The Wainwright Unit, a male correctional facility, boasts a capacity to accommodate 2,143 inmates within its walls, with its trusty camp currently idled. Spanning approximately 12,789 acres, it offers a wide array of agricultural operations, including cow/calf and heifer development, egg laying, farm shop, feedmill and grain storage, and swine farrowing/nursery/finishing operations. Additionally, it houses security horses and utilizes security pack canines to maintain safety and security.
Furthermore, the Wainwright Unit hosts a garment factory as part of its manufacturing and logistics operations. Unit maintenance ensures smooth facility operations, while medical services are provided by UTMB, covering ambulatory medical, dental, and mental health needs, complemented by digital medical services, electronic specialty clinics, and CPAP accommodating housing.
The educational landscape includes literacy programs, CHANGES/Pre-Release initiatives, and cognitive intervention courses. Career and technology offerings span automotive specialization, painting and decorating, and vocational training in food service preparation through partnerships with Lee College.
The facility also provides faith-based dormitories and opportunities for adult education, peer education, reentry planning, and chaplaincy services. Crime Stoppers and the GO KIDS Initiative aim to foster a safe and rehabilitative environment.
Community involvement is a priority, with inmates contributing to various projects benefiting city agencies and local school districts. Additionally, volunteer initiatives play a vital role in the rehabilitation process, offering literacy and educational support, employment and job skills training, substance abuse education, life skills development, parent training, support groups, mentoring, and religious or faith-based studies and activities. Post-release housing assistance is also available to facilitate successful reintegration into society.

Wainright Unit maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
Visitation plays an important role in maintaining the association between inmates and their friends and family as well as strengthening family ties. Visitation Procedure Update (effective December 28, 2023)
Confirm the inmate is assigned to the unit you are planning to visit and has visitation privileges.

Confirm the unit visitation schedule and verify that visitation has not been canceled. An eligible inmate cannot receive visitors if visitation has been canceled.

Special visits or visits requiring special accommodations should be arranged before the visit. If you have made special arrangements with the unit, call before leaving to ensure that plans for your visit have been made and are in place. Spiritual visits must be coordinated through the warden’s office.
Each inmate is only allowed one visit per weekend. To the extent possible, individuals on an inmate’s Visitors List should coordinate with one another and with the inmate to prevent subsequent visitors from being declined when they arrive at the unit.
