Ferguson Unit is for State Prison offenders sentenced anywhere from one year to life by the State Court in the county where the charges were filed

Located at 12120 Savage Dr in Midway, TX, Ferguson Unit carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Ferguson Unit offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The Ferguson Unit, exclusively for male inmates, has a capacity of 2,096 individuals, with its Trusty Camp currently idled. Custody levels housed at Ferguson span from G1 to G5, including security detention and transient inmates. Situated on approximately 4,355 acres, the facility engages in various agricultural operations, including edible and field crops, a farm shop, a bull management center, and swine farrowing/nursery/finishing operations. Additionally, Ferguson operates security horses and security pack canines to maintain order and safety.
In terms of manufacturing and logistics, Ferguson boasts a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) facility and a mop and broom factory. Facility operations primarily focus on unit maintenance to ensure operational efficiency and safety standards. Ferguson does not engage in additional operations beyond its core functions.
Medical services at Ferguson encompass ambulatory medical, dental, and mental health care, with digital medical services (DMS), electronic specialty clinics, and CPAP accommodating housing available. These services are managed by UTMB, ensuring comprehensive healthcare delivery.
Education is a cornerstone of rehabilitation at Ferguson, offering literacy programs, special education, CHANGES/pre-release courses, and cognitive intervention. Career and technology programs include culinary arts, electrical trades, mill & cabinetmaking, small engine repair, welding, and diversified career preparation in food services. Additionally, Lee College provides vocational training in data processing and cabinet making.
Further programs and services at Ferguson include a faith-based dormitory, adult education (when available), peer education, reentry planning, chaplaincy services, and the GO KIDS initiative, which promotes positive youth development. Ferguson's community engagement extends to providing services to city and county agencies, as well as the local school district, through various work projects.
Volunteer initiatives at Ferguson encompass substance abuse education, support groups, mentoring, and religious or faith-based studies and activities. These initiatives foster personal growth and community integration among inmates, contributing to successful reentry into society upon release.
Ferguson Unit maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
Visitation plays an important role in maintaining the association between inmates and their friends and family as well as strengthening family ties. Visitation Procedure Update (effective December 28, 2023)

Confirm the unit visitation schedule and verify that visitation has not been canceled. An eligible inmate cannot receive visitors if visitation has been canceled.

Make sure you are not bringing prohibited items on the unit. Vehicles and visitors are subject to search by unit staff. Click here for items allowed and not allowed.
Do not bring cash (except coins, not more than $35).
No cell phones inside the secure perimeter.
Special visits or visits requiring special accommodations should be arranged before the visit. If you have made special arrangements with the unit, call before leaving to ensure that plans for your visit have been made and are in place. Spiritual visits must be coordinated through the warden’s office.
Each inmate is only allowed one visit per weekend. To the extent possible, individuals on an inmate’s Visitors List should coordinate with one another and with the inmate to prevent subsequent visitors from being declined when they arrive at the unit.
