The Torres Unit, exclusively for male inmates, has a capacity of 1,384 and accommodates custody levels G1, G2, and G4. Situated on approximately 350 acres, the unit engages in agricultural operations such as managing security horses, security pack canines, and maintaining a unit garden. Additionally, it operates a print shop for manufacturing and logistics purposes and provides laundry services for the Ney State Jail.
Medical services at Torres include ambulatory medical and dental care, all conveniently located on a single level, with housing accommodations for CPAP users. These services are managed by UTMB, ensuring comprehensive healthcare for inmates. Educational programs encompass literacy, CHANGES/Pre-Release, and cognitive intervention, along with career and technology programs like automotive fundamentals and training in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration, as well as electrical trades.
Further support is offered through additional programs and services, including faith-based and transformational ministry dormitories, adult education programs, life decisions programs, peer education, reentry planning, chaplaincy services, and the GO KIDS Initiative, promoting holistic development and rehabilitation.
