Additionally, the Sheriff’s Weekend Alternative Program (SWAP) serves as a jail diversion initiative that aims to alleviate jail overcrowding. This program provides non-violent participants with the opportunity to minimize disruption to their daily lives while fulfilling court obligations. Through SWAP, participants can maintain employment, continue their education, and remain active in their home life.

SWAP functions by offering free manual labor services to municipalities, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. Participants have the chance to acquire transferable trade skills, enhancing their future employment prospects or advancing their careers. The program operates on a day-for-day basis, where participants must complete the same number of SWAP days as their sentence. Participants are required to work at least two consecutive days per week until their sentence is fully served, with schedules varying by location.

Only judges have the authority to sentence individuals to SWAP. Once sentenced, approved participants must call at least two weeks before their scheduled report date to arrange their orientation appointment. During orientation, participants will receive specific details regarding the dates, times, and locations of their sentence assignments, along with a copy of the program's rules, regulations, and mandatory equipment.

Inmate workers are chosen based on conduct and cooperation with staff. Participation in the community service program can sometimes reduce sentences. Commissary is available weekly, with orders submitted via kiosk two days in advance. On holidays, there may be increased spending limits. Upon receiving commissary items, inmates must present their ID, check their order, and sign for it in the presence of the commissary employee.
