Located at 31285 Camp Rd in Hanover, VA, Caroline Correctional Unit 2 carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Caroline Correctional Unit 2 offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
Caroline Correctional Unit houses approximately 140 male inmates aged 18 to 64. As a minimum-security facility, Caroline only accommodates inmates with no escape history or behavioral issues in the past two years. Eligibility criteria exclude offenders convicted of murder, kidnapping, or sex offenses.
The unit provides comprehensive services including counseling, mental health, and medical care. Inmates are housed in two open dormitories, with segregation available for security or safety concerns. The facility maintains security through perimeter fencing and 59 surveillance cameras. Eligible offenders engage in various work programs, including agribusiness, highway labor, and internal jobs like kitchen work and custodial maintenance.
Educational opportunities include GED programs, computer training, and vocational certifications in wastewater treatment, forklift operation, and more. Substance abuse treatment and mental health services are also available, aligning with the state prison system's focus on constructive occupation and reducing recidivism through tailored programs.
Treatment planning begins upon inmates' entry, with individualized plans developed by counselors based on assessment results. Core programs cover inmate work activities, substance abuse treatment, and life skills programming. Additionally, the facility offers Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous programs, along with counseling and recovery groups.
A Framework for Breaking Barriers encourages positive goal-setting through workbooks and videos, preparing inmates for reintegration into society. Other programs cater to special needs, including behavior management, women offender support, anger management, geriatric care, and victim assistance, contributing to a holistic approach to inmate rehabilitation and positive growth.
Caroline Correctional Unit 2 maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
Apply for Visitation - Submit a visitation application online if you are a new visitor or renewing your visitation privileges.
Schedule a Visit - Once you receive approval to visit an inmate in a VADOC facility, you must schedule your visit online using the Visitation Scheduler. If you are a new user, you must first register using the “Register Today” option.
Prepare for Your Scheduled Visit - Once you have both applied for visitation and scheduled your visit, please review the following information to help you prepare for your in-person visit.
Plan - Please arrive at the facility one hour before your visit for security screening. No food or drinks will be allowed in the facility, and there will be no access to vending machines.
