Located at 2559 Glen Rd in Newport, VT, NSCF carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. NSCF offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The Northern State Correctional Facility, Vermont's largest medium-security prison, accommodates up to 430 adult male inmates. It offers educational opportunities, including the chance to earn a GED through the Community High School of Vermont program. Despite the presence of gangs like the Aryan Nation, Crips, and Bloods, violence at the facility is relatively uncommon. The prison provides a re-entry program to aid inmates in their transition back into society, alongside opportunities for participation in a theater group and vocational training in various skills. Additionally, the facility includes a specialized 28-bed unit dedicated to inmates with acute and chronic mental illness, ensuring they receive appropriate care and support.
NSCF maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
