The Washington Co Jail is a detention center located at 500 N Schmidt Rd West Bend, WI which is operated locally by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Washington County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, West Bend Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Wisconsin here.

The Washington County Jail, along with its dedicated staff, strives to maintain a safe facility for both the citizens of Washington County and the inmates housed within. By implementing effective methods to ensure security, control, and order, the jail facilitates various administrative processes. Money for inmates can be deposited using a kiosk in the front lobby, where entering the inmate's name and date of birth is required. The kiosk accepts both cash, with a $2.75 fee per transaction and no upper limit, and credit cards, with a $100 limit per transaction and a fee of $4.95. Additionally, medications can be dropped off but must be in their original containers and are subject to review by medical staff before approval.

Inmates have the opportunity to receive magazines and books under specific guidelines. Magazines and newspapers must be ordered by subscription with a limit of three subscription periodicals per month per inmate. Soft-covered books can be obtained directly from publishers or bookstores and must be mailed directly to the jail. However, hard-covered books are not accepted, and materials may be denied if they violate jail rules, contain contraband, or threaten the facility's safety and security. Denied items are either placed in the inmate's property, confiscated, or destroyed.

Inmate property can be picked up if the inmate fills out a Property Release form listing the receiver and the items to be released, although one full set of clothing must remain in the property as long as the inmate is in custody. In terms of communication, inmates can make phone calls using the facility's phone system, with charges applied. Inmates cannot receive calls but can receive voicemail messages for a $1.00 fee per message, which requires a pre-paid account set up with IC Solutions. Messages are sent directly to the inmate's phone account and can be retrieved using their PIN number.

The jail provides on-site medical services with co-payments deducted from the inmate's account at the time services are requested. Medical care is offered regardless of the inmate’s ability to pay, although inmates under the Huber Law are responsible for all medical costs incurred while in custody. This comprehensive approach ensures the jail functions smoothly and securely while addressing the needs of both the inmates and the broader community.
