WI DOC - Thompson Correctional Center - Inmate Handbook
The Thompson Correctional Center (TCC) is situated 17 miles east of Madison, nestled between Deerfield and Cambridge in Wisconsin. Covering 22 acres of land, TCC comprises a 90-bed center and business office in a modern building, while the old building houses program spaces and additional housing. Originating from the Forger Thompson farm dating back to the 1840s, TCC was established in 1942 as a prison farm on 1,100 acres leased from the University of Wisconsin. Over the years, its program focus shifted from farming to work release, with its capacity growing to 90 offenders following the completion of a new building in 1993.
With a current capacity for 125 adult male inmates, TCC employs a team of 17 security staff, two social workers, and various support personnel. As part of the Wisconsin Correctional Center System, TCC contributes to the Dane County Enhanced Supervision Project, catering primarily to offenders from Dane, Rock, Green, and Jefferson Counties. It also offers an Alternative to Incarceration program for probationers and parolees, emphasizing life skills, employment, and relapse prevention.
Work release is a central feature at TCC, earned through participation in programming groups focused on reintegration, relapse prevention, and employment readiness. Offenders engage in community-based work opportunities, paying restitution and fulfilling other financial obligations. Community service projects and partnerships, such as with the Labrador Education and Rescue Network (L.E.A.R.N), provide additional avenues for rehabilitation and community involvement.
Educational programs include individual tutoring for those without high school diplomas, while substance abuse treatment and parenting courses address specific needs identified among the inmate population. Participation in support groups like AA and NA is mandatory for those with substance abuse issues, contributing to holistic rehabilitation efforts at TCC. Through these initiatives and partnerships, TCC aims to foster positive personal growth and successful reintegration into society for its inmates.
Thompson CC maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
