Wise Co Jail is for County Jail offenders sentenced up to twenty four months.

The Wise Co Jail is a detention center located at 200 Rook Ramsey Dr Decatur, TX which is operated locally by the Wise County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Wise County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Decatur Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Inmates will receive medical attention regardless of their ability to pay. The medical services that are available are:

Recreational reading material is available in the Jail.

  • Inmates may have newspaper and magazine subscriptions. These items must be mailed directly from the publisher to the inmate by name.
Publications containing the following material are prohibited:
  1. Any material that is capable of being used to arouse interest or depicts graphic description of any sexual conduct.
  2. Any item that displays or distributes any obscene photographs, drawings or similar visual representation or other obscene material that promotes simulated sexual intercourse, deviate sexual intercourse, or any lewd exhibition of male or female genitals.
  • Newspapers or magazines brought to jail by individuals will not be accepted.
  • Religious library pieces, such as book and study curricula, are available by sending a request to the chaplain.
  • A collection of electronic legal reference materials are available in the Law Library for inmates who desire to prepare their own legal documents. Inmates must schedule visits to the law library by submitting a request.

Upon being released the inmate is given their clothes and shoes. Their remaining property is carried out by the officer and returned to the individual in the jail lobby. Money remaining on their account will be issued in check form to the inmate at time of release during business hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If the inmate is released after hours arrangements to pick it up at another time can be made or the check will be mailed to them.

Transfer to another facility - If the inmate is transferred to another facility a property release form will be completed designating an individual for the jail to release property to. Pick up of personal property must be within sixty days. (All funds on the inmate's books will be transferred with the inmate.)

***If the inmate's personal items are not picked up within sixty days the items will be destroyed.***

Visitation Information

Wise County Jail - Visitation

INMATE VISITATION RULES & REGULATIONS

The following Rules & Regulations must be followed and adhered to in order to visit with an inmate at the Wise County Jail.
  1. Your name and personal information must be listed on the inmate’s visitation card.
  2. You must present proper identification. These must be picture identification in the list below: Driver’s License, Any State Issued Card, Military ID, or a Passport. A shift supervisor PRIOR to the visit must approve any other forms of identification. Identification cards will be considered valid provided it contains the correct picture and has not been altered in any way.
  3. Picture ID is required for visitors 17 and older. An approved adult visitor must accompany all visitors who are 16 and younger. Those persons who do not have proper picture ID and/or an approved adult visitor with them SHALL NOT be allowed to visit.
  4. NO CELL PHONES AND/OR CAMERAS
  5. NO purses, diaper bags, and/or packages will be allowed in the visitation room.
  6. The time limit for a visit is 20 minutes. If you have proof of residence outside a 100 mile radius, a 40 minute extended visit shall be allowed, under normal circumstances.
  7. No previous inmates shall be allowed to visit until 45 days have passed.
  8. Any special requests in regards to visitation must be submitted to the Jail Administrator and/or his designee in writing and approved prior to the visit.
  9. Proper dress is required. NO short shorts above the knees, tank tops, short dresses, too tight clothing and/or revealing clothing shall be allowed. Your visit will be denied if you show up without proper attire.
  10. You must maintain control of all minor children in the lobby and visitation rooms at all times. If your children are creating a disturbance, your visit may be terminated and/or denied.
  11. All ministry visitations must go through the Jail Chaplain and must not be done on or during previously scheduled visitation times.
  12. Jail staff has the right to deny or terminate any visit if circumstances arise that would threaten the normal operations of a safe and secure facility.

***Notice all visitors must be signed in 30 minutes prior to the end of the specified visitation time or the visit may be denied.***
