Located at 2880 N Pleasants Hwy in St. Marys, WV, Saint Marys Correctional carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. Saint Marys Correctional offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

St. Marys Correctional Center (SMCC) serves as a medium-security facility within the West Virginia Division of Corrections, catering to offenders classified as Level III, Level II, and Level I custody, including geriatric or chronically ill individuals. The facility's daily count encompasses 610 inmates, with specific provisions made for an aging offender population, featuring wheelchair-accessible infrastructure to accommodate mobility-impaired individuals.

Predominantly housing medium-classification custody inmates, SMCC prioritizes inmate rehabilitation and re-entry preparation through educational programs and community service initiatives. The institution emphasizes its role as a responsible neighbor to the Pleasants County area, striving to facilitate successful reintegration into society for its inmates.

In February 2014, SMCC implemented the paws4prisons Program in partnership with the paws4people foundation, focusing on training Assistance Dogs to support various needs. This initiative serves as an inmate rehabilitation program, fostering qualities such as patience, responsibility, and empathy while allowing inmates to contribute positively to society.

Additionally, SMCC hosts a Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) Unit with 108 beds, offering educational classes, peer groups, and a graduate program to address substance abuse issues among inmates. The therapeutic community model is employed to promote self-change and facilitate successful re-entry into society, with an aftercare plan developed to support inmates post-release.

Aligned with the institution's re-entry-focused approach, SMCC collaborates across disciplines to ensure comprehensive inmate support. The facility also offers the Alcohol and Drug Education, Treatment, and Relapse Prevention program (ALADRUE), a three-tiered substance abuse program available statewide, aiming to address addiction issues among incarcerated individuals and reduce recidivism rates.

Furthermore, WV Correctional Industries, established in 1939, operates within SMCC to provide skills training and reduce inmate idleness and recidivism. Furnishing necessities to government and non-profit organizations, the program encompasses various products and services, contributing to the institution's goal of inmate rehabilitation and successful community reintegration.
