Located at 7076 Road 55F in Torrington, WY, WMCI carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. WMCI offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) serves as the primary intake and assessment center for male inmates not sentenced to death, offering a range of services including education, medical and mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and life skills programs. Upon arrival, inmates undergo a comprehensive assessment to determine their needs and risks, which informs the creation of individualized case plans.
These plans address security classification, medical and mental health needs, education, life skills, and vocational training, aiming to facilitate behavioral change and successful reintegration into society. About 95% of inmates will eventually return to the community.
Approximately two-thirds of WMCI's inmate population stay for nine months or less, while all male felons, excluding those on death row, pass through for intake, assessment, and programming. Offender programs offered at WMCI include prison industries, academic and vocational education, recreational activities, visiting, mail and telephone access, legal services, religious activities, and dietary programs.
By providing structured programming and services tailored to individual needs, WMCI endeavors to equip inmates with the skills and support necessary for positive reentry into society, fostering a safer and more productive community.
WMCI maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
