No, you cannot send an MP3 player directly to your son, whether it is new or used.

Facilities have very strict rules about property, and personal electronics are not allowed to be mailed in from the outside. If you try to send one, it will almost always be rejected and returned.

If MP3 players are allowed at his facility, they must be:

  • Purchased through the prison’s approved vendor or commissary system
  • Designed specifically for inmate use
  • Pre approved and registered to that inmate

Here is what you should do:

  • Put money into his inmate trust account
  • He can then buy the approved MP3 player himself if it is available at that facility

These approved players are different from regular ones. They are usually clear, limited function devices that meet security requirements.

Important:
Always check the specific rules for his facility, because availability and policies can vary.

In general, the safest rule is:

  • Do not mail electronics or packages unless they come directly from an approved vendor

Sticking to letters, photos, and approved publications will help you avoid having items rejected.
