Short answer, no. There is no outside person or service that can get an inmate released from the SHU, also known as the hole. That decision is entirely controlled by the facility and its internal disciplinary process.
When an inmate is placed in the SHU, it is usually for one of three reasons:
Even if the inmate says they did nothing wrong, the facility does not rely on outside opinions to make or reverse those decisions. Staff conduct their own investigation and review, and they have broad authority to keep someone in the SHU as long as they believe it is necessary.
If the situation involves information the inmate refuses to share, that can absolutely extend the time they stay there. Facilities often apply pressure in these situations, and cooperation can sometimes influence how quickly things move. Staying silent may mean a longer stay, even if the inmate believes they are in the right.
The only real paths out of the SHU are internal:
From the outside, the most you can do is:
You can continue writing through InmateAid to help them stay connected during this time, but changes to their housing status must come from within the system.
