Can you send sketchbooks or paper to inmates

Can I send my inmate a sketch book( off Amazon) or just a bunch of blank computer paper so he can draw? If I can will he be able to take these drawing and letters I send when he leaves?

You can usually send blank paper to an inmate without any problems.

You can usually send blank paper to an inmate without any problems. Standard white printer paper is widely accepted and a good option if he wants to draw or write.

sketchbook is different. Many facilities treat bound items more strictly, so it may require prior approval before it is allowed in. Some prisons only accept books from approved vendors and may limit the type of binding, size, or content. If you send one without checking, there is a chance it could be rejected.

To avoid issues:

  • Send loose blank paper if you want a safe option
  • Have your inmate ask staff if a sketchbook is allowed before ordering
  • If approved, make sure it is sent directly from a vendor like Amazon

As for keeping his work, yes, in most cases inmates are allowed to take their personal property with them when they are released. That includes drawings, letters, and other approved items they have accumulated while inside.

Encouraging him to draw is a great way to help him pass the time productively and stay focused.
