Yes, absolutely. Getting time served at a hearing does not always mean immediate release and there are several reasons your boyfriend could still be in Cache County Jail even after a favorable court outcome.

The hold from another state

This is the most common reason someone remains in custody after receiving time served or a sentence that should result in release. If another state has an active warrant, detainer, or hold on your boyfriend Cache County Jail is required to keep him in custody until that hold is resolved. The releasing jurisdiction cannot simply let him walk out when another state is waiting to take custody.

An out of state hold means he will likely be transferred to the requesting state rather than released directly. The process of arranging that transfer can take days to weeks depending on how quickly the requesting state moves and how the transfer is coordinated between jurisdictions.

Other possible reasons for remaining in custody

Even without an out of state hold there are other reasons release can be delayed after a court hearing. Paperwork processing at the jail can take hours or in some cases overnight before the system updates and release is processed. Outstanding fines or fees in the same jurisdiction can trigger an administrative hold. A probation or parole violation from a previous case can result in a hold being placed the moment the current case resolves.

How to find out what is happening

Call Cache County Jail directly and ask for the booking or records department. Ask specifically whether there is a hold or detainer on file for your boyfriend and from which jurisdiction. They can confirm whether he is being held on local charges, an out of state hold, or is in the process of being released.

If there is an out of state hold ask which state placed it. That tells you who to contact next and what the likely timeline looks like.
