The most likely explanation is a failed drug test at drug court. That is the most common reason someone is held on the spot when they report in. Drug courts have immediate detention authority when a participant tests positive or otherwise violates the conditions of the program, and sending someone directly to a residential recovery program rather than jail is actually the more constructive outcome in that situation. If they are routing him to the Men's Recovery Academy, that points strongly toward a substance-related violation rather than a new criminal charge.

To find out exactly what he was held for, call the drug court clerk for the jurisdiction handling his case. Drug court proceedings are less formal than standard court, but there will still be a record of what action was taken and why. That is public information you can request.

On the wait at CCA: holding someone at a county correctional facility while waiting for a bed at a residential program is standard. Bed availability at recovery academies fluctuates constantly. The wait could be a few days, a few weeks, or longer depending on how many people are ahead of him in the queue. There is no reliable way to predict the exact timeline from the outside.

Keep communicating with him through mail and calls while he is at CCA. Once he moves to the recovery academy, communication policies change and vary by program, so ask the facility when he arrives what the contact rules are.
